00:00It all began in 1976 when the Viking 1 orbiter captured an image of an unusual structure

00:28The Syndonia region, home to the enigmatic structure, soon became synonymous with theories

00:41The Viking 1 orbiter was launched by NASA in August 1975 with the mission to photograph

00:49and collect atmospheric data from Mars.

00:53On July 25, 1976, while mapping potential landing sites for future missions, the orbiter

01:01captured a series of images of the planet's surface.

01:06Among these images was one that showed a 1.2 miles long humanoid face staring up from the
