Prince Harry claimed a "monumental" victory over Rupert Murdoch's UK newspaper group on Wednesday after the publisher settled his lawsuit, admitting unlawful actions at its Sun tabloid for the first time and paying substantial damages. - REUTERS

00:32of The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World at the High Court in London.

00:44spending more than a billion pounds in payouts and in legal costs, as well as paying off

00:50those in the know in order to prevent the full picture from coming out, News UK is finally

00:57held to account for its illegal actions and its blatant disregard for the law.

01:03The trial to consider the case was due to start on Tuesday, but following last gasp

01:07talks, the two sides reached a settlement.

01:10As part of the settlement, the publisher admitted unlawful actions at its Sun tabloid for the

01:14first time, bringing the fiercely contested legal battle to a dramatic end.

01:20Harry's lawyer said a deal had been struck with NGN agreeing to pay significant damages.

01:24A source familiar with the settlement said the damages involved an eight-figure sum.

01:29NGN also admitted it had intruded into the private life of Harry's late mother, Princess

01:33Diana.

01:35The media company has paid out hundreds of millions of pounds to victims of phone hacking

01:39and other unlawful information gathering by the News of the World, and settled more than

01:441,300 lawsuits involving celebrities, politicians, well-known sports figures and ordinary people

01:50who were connected to them or major events.
