NSW Police Commissioner reject claims Jewish community has been failed

The New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb has rejected suggestions that police have failed the Jewish community as investigations continue into the spate of antisemitic attacks in Sydney. Two synagogues and a childcare centre have been targets for arsonists while homes and vehicles have also been torched. A 33-year-old Sydney man has been charged with attempting to set fire to a Newtown synagogue in the inner west with authorities expecting to make a second arrest over the same incident. Commissioner Webb says she understands community concerns, but insists police are doing everything they can to track down those responsible.

00:12So over 180 people have been in some form of sanction from a fine through to charges

00:19at court.

00:20So we do take every single matter seriously and my messaging has been, and I meet with

00:24senior members of the Jewish community and other communities regularly, is that we need

00:29the matters reported, we need to understand when and where they're happening.

00:33The sooner they're reported, the sooner we can respond.
