Macron and Scholz call for a united Europe in face of Trump's tariff threats

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke in Paris of the challenge posed by US President Donald Trump.

00:17It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the Elysee.

00:23Europe is a large economic space with around 450 million citizens.

00:28We are strong.

00:30We stand together.

00:32Europe will not duck and hide, but will be a constructive and self-confident partner.

00:40On this basis, we will work well together with the U.S. and the new American president.

00:48Macron also called on France and Germany to take a leading role in building a strong and

00:54united Europe capable of defending its interests whilst maintaining transatlantic ties.
