00:00Trump can control or the US government can control Greenland without buying it.
00:10Is it just a propaganda by US media or will Trump actually buy Greenland in his tenure?
00:17Wherever there is money and resources to be grabbed, you can be sure the US will be the
00:22first one to reach there, okay?
00:24Yeah, yeah, we can say that.
00:26There are many flights from China to the US, they take the Arctic route.
00:30We are talking about the countries in North America and if we geographically talk about
00:35Greenland, then Trump said that he is going to buy Greenland.
00:39And recently, a survey came from US media which says that even most of the people in
00:44Greenland want to agree with Trump and they also want to be part of America.
00:50What do you think?
00:51Is it right or is it just a propaganda by US media?
00:54Or will Trump actually buy Greenland in his tenure?
01:00The Prime Minister of Greenland as well as Denmark has made it clear that Greenland is
01:05not for sale.
01:07Trump can control or the US government can control Greenland without buying it.
01:13Okay, Greenland is an autonomous territory, it has a large measure of autonomy as part
01:19of Denmark.
01:21And it has a head of government who has been dealing on his own with other heads of government
01:28and he has also travelled to China, so it has its own kind of arc of international relationships
01:34and networking.
01:36And I have followed this issue of Greenland for some 12-13 years now, from the time they
01:41discovered oil there, they say they have some 90 million barrels of oil or billion barrels
01:46of oil or whatever.
01:48These are all estimates and that you need lot of money to kind of tap these resources.
01:55So from then, the US has expressed, because wherever there is money and resources to be
02:00grabbed, you can be sure the US will be the first one to reach there.
02:06The whole conflict with the Arab world, with Iran, they don't want to destroy Iran or its
02:11oil field, they want Iran and its oil field to be captive to the US, to be subordinated
02:17to them.
02:18This is the same thing that they want with Greenland.
02:20Now Denmark has said they will talk to the US, but Denmark has been the most willing
02:27accomplice in all US militarist acts worldwide, beginning with the bombing of Libya in 1985.
02:36From any of their attacks, it has been one of the most passionate supporters of US military
02:43action worldwide, its sanctions against other countries.
02:46Even 1998, Denmark is such a small country, I think its population is less than the number
02:52of vehicles in Delhi.
02:54And then these people supported US sanctions and they also wanted to sanction India in
02:581998 after the Vajpayee government had carried out the second nuclear test.
03:03So they are out and out a US camp follower.
03:07But then these are all old Europe.
03:10The US is now banking on what they call the new Europe, which is the new members of NATO
03:15who are aspiring to be in the EU, like Poland and Czechoslovakia and Hungary and all these
03:20people.
03:21Now for instance, Hungarian President Orban, he might be one of Trump's favourites, you
03:26know.
03:27Oh, okay.
03:28He asked me this earlier.
03:30So I think Greenland, these are interesting times for Greenland.
03:34There's a lot of oil, but they are…
03:36Yes, natural resources.
03:37There are a lot of natural resources in Greenland which Trump is aiming at.
03:42The US is a military power and presence in the Arctic circuit, whether they take Greenland
03:47or not.
03:48And the Arctic is not for the taking of any one country.
03:53Actually, today many flights from China to the US, they take the Arctic route.
03:59And Chinese ships have cut through the, you know, ice and snow of Arctic.
04:06So the Arctic is a very contested place, like the Antarctica.
04:11No one country will be able to take it as a cake and walk away with it.
04:15There'll have to be a sharing among many countries, you know.
04:18That's how it will be.
04:19Sir, you said that even if Trump don't buy Greenland, it is going to be under US control,
04:25right?
04:26Yes.
04:27And Greenland's Prime Minister gave a statement when Trump said that he's going to buy it
04:31that we are looking forward to Trump's administration and we are looking for a positive diplomatic
04:36relation.
04:37So shall we say that the Prime Minister of Greenland is quite scared of Trump's administration
04:44that if Trump will buy it, it will be a problem.
04:46So he's saying that we'll have a good relations with them?
04:49No, no.
04:50Is he buttering the matter?
04:51A million television channels and podcasts all over the world are giving an attention
04:54to the Greenland Prime Minister, which no Greenland Prime Minister has ever had.
04:59No European head of government.
05:00So he's already having his day in the sun.
05:03He doesn't care.
05:05This is a way for him to step up to a higher table.
05:08That's how I would see it.
05:09He is not going to decide whether Greenland is sold or not.
05:13Certainly not his decision.
