The colourful murals painted on several SS15 LRT station pillars
00:07
mark the start of a creative placemaking project
00:10
between Prasarana Malaysia and Subang Jaya Assemblyman Michelle Ang,
00:14
with plans to expand such initiatives in future.
00:17
This project is a result of our office's efforts
00:22
to improve the experience of pedestrians and road users.
00:27
So it's twofold, right?
00:28
Improve user experience and also to beautify our surroundings.
00:32
We also want to ensure that we support local artists.
00:35
That's the third objective.
00:37
The name Sang Seni 15, let me explain why we use this name.
00:43
Sang Seni, the first word is SS,
00:46
so it refers to the area, which is SS15.
00:49
And actually, Sang Seni refers to the artists that we want to celebrate.
00:56
A total of 12 pillars at the SS15 LRT station were painted under Sang Seni 15.
01:02
The project's RM62,500 cost was borne by Ang's office and sponsor,
01:08
Fitline Sendirian Berhad.
01:25
Meanwhile, Prasarana has received good feedback for this project,
01:46
and will continue collaborating with Ang on other Prasarana-owned structures within SS15.
01:55
To beautify our surroundings.
01:59
So SS15 is one of the earlier areas,
02:03
because like what YB Michelle mentioned just now,
02:06
this area sets the trend for a lot of things.
02:08
So we are setting the trend for these kind of mural paintings to be done,
02:12
not only here, we are looking at even other places along the Prasarana right away,
02:17
as well as our stations in the future.
02:20
So our interest is of course to make things easier, more eye-catching,
02:27
so that people feel easy and wanting to come and visit.
02:32
The murals feature themes such as mobility, community, nature,
02:36
and lifestyle elements found around SS15.
02:40
Quest Studio Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Firdaus Omar said a team of 12,
02:47
comprising six artists and their assistants,
02:50
painted the murals that took two weeks to be completed.
02:53
Our challenge is the weather, because of the monsoon,
02:57
and then the traffic.
02:59
The most severe traffic, because of the rain, we can still protect ourselves,
03:02
we can still work.
03:03
But when the traffic involves high speed crossings,
03:06
and also at the end of the year,
03:08
so we can't really control it.
03:10
So what we do is,
03:13
we highlight, we ask all the artists to wear safety gear,
03:18
we prepare cones and safety lights,
03:24
because we do it day and night.
03:26
Each mural has a QR code that connects users to the participating artists' social media platforms.
