Howe exercises caution ahead of Wolves test

Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe had made clear that his focus is always on the next step as the Magpies get set to face Wolves. Daniel Wales reports.

00:17Eddie Howe is not getting ahead of himself.

00:22Howe made clear that he does not like to look two games ahead and maintained that his focus

00:27is always on the next step that he and his players have to take during their campaign.

00:32He was adamant that his side must always approach the next game in the right way and not become

00:36complacent following a string of good performances.

00:41Newcastle have been the country's informed side over the last few weeks, leading many

00:46supporters to become excited about what the rest of the season may hold. And despite the

00:51caution from Howe, they will be pleased that he and the players are remaining focused on

00:56the task at hand in both the league and the Cups.

01:02On the injury front, the Magpies will be without Harvey Barnes for around a month, with the

01:07winger picking up a thigh strain against Bromley at St James' Park. Howe also made clear that

01:13Alexander Isak, Sven Botman, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy will all be assessed ahead of

01:18the Wolves match on Wednesday.

01:22As for Wolves, Howe was complimentary of the work that Vito Pereira has done since

01:26he has taken charge at Molyneux. Charles Higgins-Jones has previewed the tie from the perspective

01:31of the visitors.

01:34Newcastle versus Wolves at St James' Park. Now it's obviously always quite a tough, tight

01:40fixture. There's not always a load of goals. I mean, last time there was, there's always

01:45probably three or four goals, but they usually go and the points are usually shared in this

01:52Newcastle have won three of the last four in terms of all meetings. I mean, it's St James'

01:58Park and it's such a tough place to go from a Wolves perspective. The last time they actually

02:02returned back from St James' Park with all three points was December 2018 with a 94th

02:10minute Matt Doherty winner. Now, you know, there's been a few draws and mainly Newcastle

02:16wins in that time. Obviously Wolves having an abundance of managers in that time as well.

02:22So yeah, it's obviously an incredibly difficult place for Wolves to go and Wolves fans, it's

02:28not a ground that they look forward to going to just based on that history. I mean, I wouldn't

02:34be surprised if the same sort of happened. Newcastle are in electric form at the moment.

02:39Wolves are still adjusting under Vito Pereira, expect a bit more defensive solidity. So maybe

02:45a draw. You never know with them at this stage of the season. They need points as desperately

02:49as they can to push away from the bottom three. But yeah, it's going to be an interesting one

02:55in the midweek at St James' Park.
