00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at our favorite subtle easter eggs and jokes
00:10hidden throughout the Wallace and Gromit franchise.
00:12Beware, there may be spoilers ahead.
00:21Number 10 – Director Portraits – Wallace and Gromit, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
00:35Reverend Clement Hedges is one of many hilarious side characters in Wallace and Gromit's
00:39feature-length debut.
00:40He's the first to encounter the Were-Rabbit, and is hilariously revealed to read pro-none
00:46wrestling magazine.
00:57Perhaps his most important contribution to the plot is providing Quartermain with 24-carat
01:02gold bullets.
01:03At the end of one particular scene, we get an ominous zoom-out shot of the vicar in his
01:07home.
01:08Here, we get a brief glimpse of directors Nick Park and Steve Box.
01:12The pair are dressed as priests, with their portraits subtly hung up on the walls.
01:17They're only shown for a few frames, so only a keen eye will spot them.
01:28Number 9 – The Yorkshire-Lancashire Border – Wallace and Gromit, Vengeance Most Foul
01:33We've known since the opening shot of The Wrong Trousers that Wallace and Gromit call
01:45Wigan their home.
01:47For those unfamiliar with English geography, it's a small town in the historic county
01:51of Lancashire.
01:52The northern county borders the magnificent Yorkshire, which is also a historic county
01:57of England.
01:58The two counties have had a rivalry for centuries, originating in the 1400s.
02:09In the 2024 film, while Feathers McGraw is making his escape, we see a sign for the Yorkshire
02:14border with bold letters saying,
02:17On the other side, the Lancastrians have hilariously written,
02:20No, you keep out.
02:29Number 8 – Peter Sallis' Hat – Wallace and Gromit, Vengeance Most Foul
02:34People from outside the UK will know Peter Sallis primarily as the voice of Wallace.
02:39Long before he was Wallace, he was Norman Cleggy Clegg in Last of the Summer Wine.
02:50This was a relatively popular sitcom, set in Yorkshire.
02:53This also explains why Wallace has a Yorkshire accent, because Sallis had practiced it extensively,
02:59making it easier than a Lancashire one.
03:09Cleggy was always spotted wearing his iconic tweed flat cap.
03:13Sallis passed away in 2017, and was unable to play Wallace in the 2024 installment.
03:19Aardman subtly paid tribute to Sallis by having Cleggy's flat cap hung up on Wallace's
03:24coat rack.
03:34Number 7 – Bob's Buns – A Close Shave and Wallace and Gromit, A Matter of Loaf and
03:40Death
03:41In 2008, the duo dipped their toes into baking, becoming Wigan's most famous bakers.
03:46The opening scene shows us a frightening murder, with Baker Bob the victim.
03:53He's the twelfth victim claimed by the villainous Payala before she meets Wallace.
04:02Fascinatingly, this wasn't his first mention in the series.
04:10In A Close Shave, a billboard of Baker Bob is hiding the entrance to Preston's secret
04:14lair.
04:15The murder is a reference to Bob Baker, co-writer of numerous Wallace and Gromit films.
04:20Baker also worked on the original series of Doctor Who, and goes way back in the British
04:24TV and film industry.
04:35Number 6 – Rosebud – A Grand Day Out
04:49Citizen Kane is one of the most widely loved older movies.
04:53Originally released in 1941, countless people will argue it's the best film ever.
04:58It's quite surprising to find out that this old and rather mature film is referenced not
05:03once but twice in Wallace and Gromit.
05:11First in A Grand Day Out, we can see a red sled called Rosebud in Wallace's basement.
05:16This is what Citizen Kane named his own sled, and these were also his final words.
05:28The second reference happens in A Matter of Loaf and Death, where we see a poster for
05:32Citizen K-9 in Gromit's room.
05:35Number 5 – Moon Cheese Shares Soar – The Wrong Trousers
06:00Building a rocket in a night and flying to the moon simply because you've run out of
06:03cheese is an extreme flex.
06:05It makes Elon Musk's space ventures look like child's play.
06:16Wallace and Gromit's hilarious adventure in A Grand Day Out is referenced loads throughout
06:20the following films.
06:22The most hilarious example is in a newspaper in The Wrong Trousers.
06:26Gromit is casually reading his morning paper, with a headline saying, Moon Cheese Shares
06:30Soar.
06:31Subtle jokes like this are littered in newspapers throughout the franchise.
06:35It makes you wonder, why did the pair embark on so many business ventures when their first
06:39was such a goldmine?
06:47Number 4 – Creature Comforts Cameos – A Close Shave and Wallace and Gromit the Curse
06:51of the Were-Rabbit
06:53If you grew up in the UK, you might have watched Aardman Animation's Creature Comforts as a
06:57child.
06:58For those unaware, it's a stop-motion mockumentary that hilariously interviews animals.
07:15A couple of these comical characters were subtly placed into Wallace and Gromit movies.
07:20Frank the Tortoise is hiding in the pair's garden in A Close Shave.
07:24His likeness is also used for an anti-pesto surveillance device in Were-Rabbit.
07:32During the delightfully creative museum burglary in The Wrong Trousers, we can spot the Creature
07:37Comforts lion.
07:38He's kept in a small glass box, which is unfortunate because the character hates a
07:43lack of space.
08:00Number 3 – Newspaper Chicken Story – A Grand Day Out
08:08This reference is so bizarre only hardcore fans will understand it, and most were probably
08:13told about it by someone else.
08:15While ascending toward the moon, Wallace reads a newspaper with the headline,
08:19Chicken Saved by Bantam.
08:21There's a lot to unpack in this tabloid eye-catcher.
08:23When director Nick Park was a child, his family had pet chickens.
08:38Once a hen fell into a pond and nearly drowned.
08:41Thankfully, her poultry pals struck into action, alerted the family, and the chicken was saved.
08:53The headline is referencing this incident as the word Bantam, with two A's, is used
08:57to describe a small variety of fowl.
09:00Using the word Bantam can also be seen as a subtle Batman reference.
09:04The paper also has an article titled Peter Goes to Lords, which seems to be alluding
09:09to Peter Lord, Aardman Animation's co-founder.
09:23Number 2 – Prison Scene – A Close Shave
09:32Gromit going to jail is one of the series' lowest moments, as it's rock bottom for
09:37our beloved canine.
09:38Seeing Wallace struggle while his house gets flooded with sheep is as sad as it is hilarious.
09:53We get a short scene of Gromit's cell, which is subtly hinted at being the ex-cell of Feathers
09:57McGraw, Earth's most dangerous penguin.
10:00Behind Gromit, you can spot Feathers' was ear, scratched into the brick.
10:04Gromit's also reading A Penguin Classic – Crime and Punishment by Dog Stoyevsky,
10:09one of the more droll jokes in the series.

10:42Number 1 – Feathers McGraw Slipped into the Background – A Close Shave, Wallace
10:47and Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and Wallace and Gromit – A Matter of Loaf
10:50and Death
10:55Feathers McGraw returns in Vengeance Most Foul, seeking to steal the blue diamond once
11:00again.
11:01Surprisingly, he's appeared in multiple Wallace and Gromit movies and a few other
11:05Aardman animation pictures.
11:18In A Close Shave, we already mentioned the references to him in Gromit's cell, but
11:22Feathers is also physically perched upon a rock during the final chase.
11:26In Were-Rabbit, we see him hanging out on top of Tottington Hall.
11:30Finally, the zoo from A Matter of Loaf and Death has a missing poster for McGraw.
11:38Maybe this explains how he became an expert hacker in Vengeance Most Foul.
11:42He was plotting the robbery for decades and wasn't as confined as we'd like to think.
11:47But then why did he have to so carefully calculate an escape plan if escaping was actually so
11:51easy?
11:52This may forever remain a mystery.
11:54Were there any subtle easter eggs we missed but you noticed?
