00:00Solar is the future.
00:05After all, it's literally limitless energy provided by the sun.
00:08But many argue that we don't have enough area for solar farms.
00:11Well, one Swiss company may have that figured out.
00:14This is what they're calling sunways, and it could help capture a massive amount of
00:18solar energy, doubling the usage of a place that is already being utilized by trains.
00:23The device sets out solar panels like a carpet between railroad tracks.
00:26And while it might not seem like a huge area, when added up, it really, really is.
00:30With the firm saying there is currently more than 75 and a half million square feet of
00:34unexploited area on train tracks right now, that's the equivalent of solar roofing on
00:38some 350,000 homes.
00:41Sunways says that while solar is the future, the industry faces a couple of issues with
00:44its uptake.
00:45The first being land use, with few people wanting to install massive solar fields on
00:49their property.
00:50The other is that the industry lacks workers who are qualified to install them.
00:54This new railway system solves both those problems, and could produce a whopping 30%
00:58of all energy in Switzerland if widely adopted.
01:01Sunways is now looking to expand, hopefully bringing their solar rail panels to the international
01:06stage soon.
