A World War II-era bomb was safely detonated by the Royal Malaysian Navy in the waters off Pulau Sibuan, Semporna, on Saturday evening (Jan 11).

00:00A World War II-era bomb was safely detonated by the Royal Malaysian Navy off Pulau Sibuan
00:15on Saturday evening.
00:17The unexploded ordnance, UXO, discovered by local fishermen on Tuesday, had remained dormant
00:24for decades.
00:25A Specialised Mine Disposal Unit, led by Lieutenant Commander Ghazali Solomon, carried out the
00:31operation with assistance from 11 mine disposal divers from the Mine, Warfare and Diving Headquarters
00:37in Lumut and Naval Region 2 Headquarters in Sandakan.
00:41The UXO, measuring 3 feet in length, 1 foot in diameter, and weighing approximately 250
00:47kilograms, was believed to be an aerial bomb dropped during air raids in the later years
00:52of World War II.
00:54Using the blow-in-place method, the team successfully neutralised the bomb without
00:58causing harm to the environment or nearby properties.
01:02Post-detonation assessments confirmed no damage to marine life or surrounding habitats.
01:08Lieutenant Commander Ghazali urged locals to report any suspicious objects found in
01:12the sea to authorities and to refrain from handling them.
01:16The operation concluded at 6.40 pm after the area was declared safe.
