Musk's interview with AFD leader lacks substance but not importance

00:00probably easy to break it down into to three reasons why the world's richest

00:04man is concerning himself with federal elections here in germany as well as

00:08paying keen attention to parties in the united kingdom as well

00:12break it down to ideological reasons business reasons and personal

00:15connections ideologically he's gone for those

00:18political parties both in the united kingdom with reform uk

00:22and here in germany with the alternative for deutschland the afd

00:26um who put themselves across as uh defenders of free speech that want to

00:31remove government regulation uh want to halt the amount of immigration

00:36into countries and who uphold traditional family values

00:41both afd and reform would say that that's pretty much their raison d'etre

00:46uh business-wise elon musk has huge and

00:50of um operations from tesla starlink spacex and

00:55x the the social media platform in europe

00:58um particularly when it comes to germany he spoke at length about wanting to

01:02to be able to remove some of the red tape and the bureaucracy that exists

01:05here and on the personal level he he has a

01:08grandmother that's from the united kingdom which

01:10may explain his interest in that country and here in germany of course he does

01:13have the huge tesla plant um which is part of his business empire

01:17in brandenburg and he also spoke at length with alice vital about removal

01:21of um red tape the difficulties of doing business in germany

01:25we were expecting some real shocking revelations from this chat though

01:29it hasn't really materialized like that essentially it was 76 minutes just over

01:33an hour and 15 minutes of two people that certainly didn't seem to

01:36have any real uh connection any real spark one of the

01:40controversies that has come out of it though

01:42is alice vital used her chat to um to say that adolf hitler and the nazis

01:47were socialists and communists in her eyes even a cursory glance at

01:52the writings and speeches of hitler would dismiss that and it has been seen

01:56as being um disingenuous to the the socialists

01:59and communists of germany who were among the the first to be

02:03arrested and put into camps by the the nazi regime ultimately though it

02:07ended up being a 76 minute chat about the nazis about life on mars and

02:13about the existence of gods and it ended really rather abruptly um but yeah

02:18as for the why i think you'd have to ask elon musk himself but those

02:21fairly decent reasons why he'd be wanting to to get involved in german

02:25politics and european politics i can tell you though

02:28he isn't being that welcomed by many of the other parties
