U.S. and E.U. expect to see Venezuela defeated

00:00A lot of people look at Venezuela and they, or I should say certain nations in the world,

00:06especially the United States and Europe and perhaps Japan,

00:09look at Venezuela and they hope to see the process ended.

00:13I think that often people point to the petroleum reserves.

00:16It's true that Venezuela has huge petroleum reserves, the largest in the world,

00:20and of course that's one of their objectives.

00:22They would like to take control of those things.

00:24But I think the most important thing that the people in the Global North

00:28or countries in the Global North, governments in the Global North don't like,

00:31is that this is a country that's declared itself sovereign,

00:34has produced an independent project, is pursuing socialism.

00:38And I think it's important actually to maintain that idea in our heads

00:44because that's a hugely important achievement.

00:47I think that Venezuela 200 years ago led a process of continental independence

00:53and approximately 20 years ago it began a process,

00:56something you could call the second independence of the continent.

00:59And those are hugely important things.
