Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, recorded videos during his drive to New Orleans before he drove into a crowd of revelers and killed fourteen people. In the videos, Jabbar declared allegiance to ISIS and revealed plans to kill his family. He stated that he joined ISIS earlier in the year and emphasized that his family was not spared willingly. Jabbar stated he initially planned a "celebration" for his family to witness their own killings, referring to them as "apostates." A senior law enforcement official confirmed to NBC News the contents of videos recorded by Jabbar. Jabbar faced personal and financial hardships leading up to the attack, including his third divorce, losing his corporate job, and accumulating substantial debt.
