00:00But tomorrow is January 6th, tomorrow is January 6th, we gather to certify the results of a
00:07free and fair presidential election and ensure a peaceful transfer of power.
00:12It's a day that most of our history we took for granted this 6th, but I hope we never
00:17take it for granted again.
00:19You know, four years ago, January 6th, this Capitol was attacked by a violent mob.
00:24If you come over to the Oval before I leave, I'll show you the room that the former president
00:29sat in for three and a half hours watching what was going on on television, the small
00:33dining room off of my, off of the Oval Office.
00:36And our democracy was really, literally put to the test.
00:40And thankfully, our democracy held.
00:43Last time this occurred, this transfer of power, the losing party never even showed
00:48up, never showed up for the, for any, for, and everybody understandably says to me, why
00:53are you being nice, Joe?
00:54Why did you have him over to the office for two hours?
00:56Why are you cooperating?
00:58Because we got to, the rules matter.
01:01The institutions matter.
01:02The safeguards matter.
01:04They really matter.
01:05And look, you know, the core traditions we've long respected in America, certifying election
01:10as attending inauguration, incoming president.
01:13And this is all part of the tradition we have to begin to restore.
01:17And I hope you too will work to restore the traditions to keep this country stronger.
