00:00I know I can speak for all Americans when I say our hearts are with the people of New

00:05Orleans after the despicable attack that occurred in the early morning hours.

00:11The FBI is leading the investigation to determine what happened, why it happened, and whether

00:17there was any continuing threat to public safety.

00:21Here's what we know so far.

00:24The FBI has reported to me the killer was an American citizen, born in Texas.

00:30He served in the United States Army on active duty for many years.

00:34He also served in the Army Reserve until a few years ago.

00:38The FBI also reported to me that mere hours before the attack, he posted videos on social

00:44media indicating that he was inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill, a desire to kill.

00:53The ISIS flag was found in his vehicle, which he rented to conduct this attack.

00:58Possible explosives were found in the vehicle as well, and more explosives were found nearby.

01:04The situation is very fluid, and the investigation is at a preliminary stage.

01:10The law enforcement and intelligence community are continuing to look for any connections,

01:15associations, or co-conspirators.

01:19We have nothing additional to report at this time.

01:22The investigation is continuing to be active, and no one should jump to conclusions.

01:26Additionally, we're tracking the explosion of a cyber truck outside the Trump Hotel in

01:32Las Vegas.

01:34Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including

01:39whether there's any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans.

01:44Thus far, there's nothing to report on that score at this time.

01:48New Orleans is a place unlike any other place in the world.

01:51It's a city full of charm and joy.

01:54So many people around the world love New Orleans because of its history, its culture, and above

01:59all, its people.

02:01So I know, while this person committed a terrible assault on the city, the spirit of New Orleans

02:07will never, never, never be defeated.

02:10It always will shine forth.

02:12We've seen that time and time again throughout its history, and I know we'll see it again

02:17in the days and weeks ahead.
