00:00The violence came shortly after 3 a.m. on New Year's Day, as people were still enjoying their

00:05parties and the crowd was swelling ahead of the Sugar Bowl college football game later in the day.

00:11Security was tight around New Orleans' famed French Quarter, but police say a pickup truck

00:16went around the barricades and drove down Bourbon Street at a very high speed.

00:21This man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could. It was not a DUI situation.

00:29This is more complex and more serious. He was hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage

00:36that he did. After crashing his vehicle, the driver started shooting, injuring two police

00:42officers. The FBI has taken over the investigation, treating it as an act of terrorism,

00:48and says at least one bomb was also found at the scene.

00:52What it is right now is they're improvised explosive devices that was found,

00:57and we are working on confirming if it's a viable device or not.

01:02Officials have so far not provided details on the identity of the suspect or his motives.

01:07The FBI says he was killed in a shootout with the police.

01:11President Joe Biden has called the city's mayor to offer full federal support.
