Electric cars: Which regions in Europe have the highest density?

Norwegian, Swedish, and Dutch regions are leading the charge, while certain areas in Greece and Spain have almost no electric car registrations.

00:12Eurostat data says there's an average of 0.56 passenger cars per inhabitant in the European Union.

00:21The top three regions with the highest rate are all in the mountainous northern part of Italy,

00:27the Aosta Valley, with nearly two and a half cars per resident, the Trento province and the Bolzano province.

00:36The Aosta Valley record rate in particular is influenced by favorable taxation rules.

00:43On the other end of the spectrum is the French overseas territory of Mayotte,

00:49followed by Greece's Peloponnesus and another overseas French department, Guyane.

00:56Some European capitals also feature among the places with the lowest rates of cars per 1,000 inhabitants,

01:04like Berlin, Vienna, Brussels and Stockholm.

01:10Stockholm is also the European region with the second highest share of electric cars,

01:16along with the Netherlands Utrecht, both at 6.6%.

01:22The Dutch province of Flevoland is first, with 12.8% of cars being electric.
