Remy Ma sets the record straight and clarifies her recent comments regarding Doja Cat's status as a rapper.

00:12I was, like, giving a compliment.

00:13Like, I didn't say it like,

00:15Because she was, like, a pop star?

00:16No, I just felt like that she was more than a rapper,

00:18because she sings, and she dances.

00:21Like, I feel like certain people, like, they

00:24fall into other categories.

00:26And everybody was so offended.

00:28And then once everybody got offended and started talking,

00:30I'm like, nah, I don't give a shit.

00:31I don't care.

00:32Like, I don't even think about it.

00:34Like, I was asked the question.

00:35I was one of the drink champs.

00:36And that's what they said.

00:37So that's what happened.

00:38But it was really meant as a compliment.

00:41But a lot of times what happens, especially

00:44when it comes to us females, the fan bases and the people

00:47that they say things, and they, like, twist things around

00:50and make it a thing, a thing.

00:53And rappers seem to be, like, the most territorial

00:57over their genre, though.

00:58Because I feel like even, like, when the whole Grammy

01:02thing with Lotto and them went down on social media,

01:04it was like, do you really care where you're classified?

01:06Or is that more about making sure people know

01:09where your category is?

01:10Or what, like, I feel like it's-

01:11I don't know.

01:12You have to bring the people that

01:13was involved in that and ask them.

01:16OK.

01:17Why are hip hop, well, I don't think they ain't gonna come.

01:21I don't know.

01:22My Grammy, the first Grammy I was nominated for

01:24were Lean Back in the rap category.

01:26We lost to the Black Eyed Peas.

01:28That's crazy.

01:29OK, so that's the issue.

01:30And the second time when we were in the rap category,

01:35we were nominated twice, but all the way up.

01:37And it went to, I think, Chance the Rapper for the,

01:40you don't want a problem with me.

01:42So is the rap that gets acknowledged as raps

01:44with, like, the tunes, the pop tunes or the crossover appeal?

01:48Well, it seems like it's changing.

01:50Because, you know, Cardi has a Grammy.

01:53Meg has a Grammy.

01:54You know, Nas finally got his Grammy.

01:56So I feel like somebody over there.

01:58But what people don't understand the way,

01:59it's a voting system.

02:00It's not really what it seems to me,

02:03the way it was explained to me.

02:05Because once you get nominated, you're part of the committee.

02:07You can vote.

02:08But a lot of times, what it seems like,

02:11whoever is signed to the label with the most people that

02:14are on the board, that's who usually wins.
