00:00Prien is the most northern town touched by the Salt Alps trail.
00:25We are here in the heart of Upper Bavaria, between Munich and Salzburg at the foot of
00:30the Alps with a view of the Campanwand.
00:37Beautifully situated on Lake Chiemsee and also an ideal starting point for a visit to
00:41Heron Chiemsee, the castle on the Heron Insel in Lake Chiemsee or the Frauen Insel, the
00:47smaller of the two islands.
00:49We find the first or last stage of the Salt Alps trail here, depending on whether you
00:54want to hike or cycle from here to the Dachstein or whether this is the start of your journey.
00:59Regardless of which direction you come from, you are greeted by a picture book ideal, just
01:04as we know it from the Chiemgau region.
01:21Halfway between Prien and Grassau, the Salt and More Museum with its café awaits where
01:26you can enjoy a leisurely coffee and cake and find another trace of the salt, as the
01:31museum used to be a pumping station for the brine that was made from the Reichenholz salt
01:36and pumped towards Rosenheim.
01:38All the tools used to maintain the infrastructure, which was made of wood, are on display here
01:43in the museum.
02:00As we come from Prien, the route continues to Grassau along idyllic paths far away from
02:06the daily hustle and bustle.
