00:00Israeli genocidal troops shelled the New Zerach refugee camp on Monday, leaving many dead
00:15and wounded.
00:20In the United States, President-elect Donald Trump will ask the State Department not to
00:23grant birthright citizenship as of January 20th.
00:30In Cuba, authorities register a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in eastern provinces.
00:40Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in
00:44Havana, Cuba.
00:45We begin with the news.
01:04In Palestine on Monday, Israeli genocidal troops shelled the New Zerach refugee camp
01:08in the Gaza Strip, leaving many dead and wounded.
01:12According to medical sources, at least five people were killed and over 20 were injured.
01:16The northwest of the Palestinian enclave where the Israeli refugee camp is located has been
01:21under attack since early Monday morning.
01:23In this context, Zionist troops hit a school that housed refugees, killing one.
01:28So far, Israel's genocidal onslaught has killed 45,259 people in Gaza, more than 70% of whom
01:35are women and children, a figure that is not conclusive as there are thousands of bodies
01:40still under the rubble.
01:46Also in Palestine, the Israeli army continues to carry out attacks against the Kamal Adwan
01:51Hospital.
01:52According to local media, medical personnel made an urgent call for the intervention of
01:56the health center in order to protect patients and medical staff as the situation deteriorates.
02:01They also stressed that the attacks caused extensive damage and cut off communication
02:05with medical teams, particularly in the women's maternity and neonatal wards.
02:10This is the second attack in less than 24 hours, leaving at least 3 dead and 24 wounded.
02:20And UNWRA Commissioner General Filippo Lazzarini stressed that all the rules of war have been
02:25violated against Palestine.
02:27Through his social media, the UNWRA Commissioner General reiterated his calls for a ceasefire
02:32and the immediate release of hostages, stressing that there has been an escalation of the genocide
02:37against Gaza in the last 24 hours.
02:40He also reported that more civilians have been killed and wounded and that attacks on
02:44schools and hospitals have become a regular occurrence.
02:47In this regard, the Commissioner further stressed that a ceasefire in Gaza is long overdue.
02:56A winter is raging in the Gaza Strip and many of the nearly 2 million Palestinians displaced
03:01by Israel's devastating genocide are struggling to protect themselves from the wind, cold
03:06and rain.
03:07Let's see.
03:08There is a shortage of blankets and warm clothing.
03:13Little wood for the fire and the patched tents and tarpaulins in which the families live
03:17are becoming increasingly threadbare after months of intensive use and with hardly any
03:22humanitarian aid due to the Israeli blockade.
03:24All this while the cold winter is becoming more and more present, with no relief for
03:29the families.
03:34We go inside our tents after sunset and don't go out because it is very cold and it gets
03:40colder by midnight.
03:50My 7-year-old daughter almost cries at night because of how cold she is.
04:05Even if we want to light a fire, where would we light it in an enclosed place like this,
04:10inside a tent?
04:13Even outside the tent, we have fear because of the occupation aircraft.
04:17More than one accident happened and several tents were struck due to setting fires, so
04:21we suffer from this issue and we rejoice when the morning comes because we suffer from extreme
04:27cold at night.
04:33The United Nations has warned of people living in precarious makeshift shelters who may not
04:38survive the winter.
04:39At least 945,000 people are in need of winter supplies, which have become prohibitively
04:45expensive in Gaza due to shortage.
04:47In addition, the United Nations also fears that infectious diseases, which spiked last
04:53winter, will rise again due to increased malnutrition.
04:58The United Nations Reliefs and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees has been planning
05:03all year for winter in Gaza, but the aid it has been able to get into the territory is
05:08not even close to being enough for the people.
05:11The agency distributed 6,000 tents over the past four weeks in northern Gaza, but was
05:16unable to get them to other parts of the Strip.
05:20Some 22,000 tents are blocked in Jordan and 600,000 blankets and 33 truckloads of mattresses
05:26have remained in Egypt since the summer because the agency does not have Israeli approval
05:31or a safe route to get them into Gaza, and because it has had to prioritize desperately
05:35needed food aid.
05:37Meanwhile, the displaced are trying to survive on what little they have.
05:43No proper clothes, no socks, nothing.
05:46We never expected to live such a life.
05:48My house was so good in the north.
05:56Our blankets are very thin, they never warms us.
06:00We feel the moisture from the ground, and the cold is killing us.
06:05We wake up in the morning freezing.
06:07Do you know what freezing means?
06:09We are shivering from the cold.
06:14The Israeli government has said that it has coordinated with various international agencies
06:18to send aid to Gaza to prepare the coastal enclave for winter.
06:22But the truth is that no aid has arrived, and winter now seems to be another weapon
06:27in the hands of Israel to continue carrying out its genocide.
06:35In other news, Palestinian musicians tour refugee camps to teach displaced children
06:39how to sing and play instruments, all this in the midst of the Israeli genocide against
06:43the Gaza Strip.
06:44Let's see.
06:45Despite the poor conditions resulting from the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinians,
06:56groups of musicians decided to give music lessons in the Rafah camps.
07:04My colleagues are helping me with this initiative.
07:07The idea came about because of the difficult conditions in Rafah, where I was staying in
07:11a shelter for artists during the war.
07:14The psychological conditions were very bad, and it occurred to me to take up the guitar
07:19and sing with the children in the camp.
07:26The idea of this Palestinian artist is to promote a different perspective of life, despite
07:31the chaotic environment and the lack of requirements to meet the daily needs of the population.
07:41The people in the camps did not fully understand the idea of music, as their priorities during
07:47the war were food, water and shelter.
07:50Despite these difficulties, I insisted on my position and continued with the initiative.
07:55Thank God, people began to realize the importance of music.
08:01Soon, however, a group of musicians joined the tour of each refugee camp to bring a little
08:11joy through music and art.
08:13In the midst of the devastation caused by the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian
08:18territory, we had left Beit Hanan.
08:24We didn't have any musical instruments.
08:27I spent three months looking for an instrument so that I could teach the children.
08:32Despite all these difficulties, we managed to carry on and bring joy to the children
08:36in the midst of these difficult circumstances.
08:43The Palestinian people are making efforts to maintain hope in the midst of the difficult
08:48circumstances they have been facing for the past year and two months, when Israel intensified
08:53the siege that led to the genocide they are living through today, which has claimed more
08:58than 45,259 martyrs.
09:01We now have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Teleswinglish
09:09where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.
09:13Stay with us.
09:34Welcome back.
09:35In the United States, President-Elect Donald Trump will ask the State Department not to
09:39grant birthright citizenship as of January 20th.
09:42According to the President-Elect's team, among the eventual measures for Trump's second
09:45administration will be not issuing passports to children with undocumented parents and
09:50tightening requirements for tourist visas.
09:53In this sense, Trump, as a candidate, developed his 2024 election campaign with an anti-immigrant
09:58rhetoric and promised the largest deportations in U.S. history.
10:03Sources familiar with the issue assured that the plans of not granting birthright citizenship
10:07would end in a legal battle that would go all the way to the Supreme Court.
10:15U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump reiterated his threats to Panamanian officials, assuring
10:20that if they do not follow the relevant instructions, they will have to hand over the Panama Canal
10:24to Washington properly and without question.
10:27In a statement, Trump stressed that if the Panamanian government fails to comply with
10:31orders, he will demand that the interoceanic waterway be returned to Washington in its
10:36entirety.
10:37Likewise, the U.S. President-Elect emphasized that if Panama cannot respect the historic
10:41agreements or guarantee a safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the canal, then
10:46it should be taken away from them.
10:48Furthermore, Donald Trump assured that the United States would not tolerate that Panama
10:52wants to ignore its instructions.
11:07President-Elect Donald Trump, on behalf of the people of Panama, but it has provisions.
11:11You got to treat us fairly, and they haven't treated us fairly.
11:14If the principles, both moral and legal, of this magnanimous gesture of giving are not
11:20followed, then we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to the United States of
11:26America in full, quickly, and without question.
11:31I'm not going to stand for it.
11:34So to the officials of Panama, please be guided accordingly.
11:38And in the midst of the outlook on the statements made by United States President-Elect Donald
11:45Trump regarding the Panama Canal, Panamanian President José Raúl Molino reaffirmed that
11:49the country's sovereignty over the canal is non-negotiable.
11:56As President, I want to express precisely that every square meter of the Panama Canal
12:01and its adjacent areas belongs to Panama and will continue to belong to Panama.
12:06The sovereignty and independence of our country are not negotiable.
12:11Every Panamanian here, or anywhere in the world, has it in his heart, and it is part
12:15of our history of struggle and an irreversible conquest.
12:24The Torrijos-Carter Treaties of 1977 agreed the dissolution of the former canal, zone
12:30recognizing the Panamanian sovereignty, and the complete surrender of the canal to Panama,
12:35which ended on December 31st, 1999.
12:39And soon we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of this transfer.
12:43Since then, there were no objections or claims.
12:45On the contrary, it has been a reason for strong international support and national
12:50pride.
13:00Russian Defense Ministry announced Monday that its armed forces liberated the major
13:07Estorosvets village in Donetsk.
13:11The military briefing ensured that liberating such village, located about 5 km southwest
13:17of Velikiye Novoselikovsk town, was a key breakthrough.
13:21It is worth remarking that Estorosvets is close to Saporizhia, where the Russian army
13:27has been deployed.
13:28Meanwhile, the Ukrainian troops have suffered casualties in the 46th and 79th Brigades,
13:32according to Russian world correspondents.
13:34Moreover, they claim that to be trapped in what they describe as the Kurakhovo sack,
13:40in all the heaviest clashes are being staged between the Selenovka and Lakhli areas, where
13:45the key interception for the transit of troops and vehicles to Saporizhia is located.
13:54German Switzerland announced that it will not hold a second conference on Ukraine,
13:59stressing that it is preparing to hold ceasefire talks.
14:02The Swiss diplomatic department specified that the main issue now is the preparation
14:05for the ceasefire talks.
14:07For its part, the Russian embassy in Berlin declared its readiness for a constructive
14:10dialogue on the situation in Ukraine, with the Swiss representatives recalling that the
14:14attempts of the Western countries to impose the Kiev-style peace formula on Russia will
14:19not change the situation.
14:25And the alliance of Sahel states, made up of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, declares
14:31itself on high alert following the actions of the economic community of West African
14:35states.
14:36ECOWAS extended the suspension of three countries for another six months.
14:40Its leaders claim that this is a unilateral decision that prevents successful cooperation
14:45between the two alliances.
14:47They describe the decision as an attempt at destabilization by a few heads of state of
14:53the alliance and warn that they are serving imperialist and neocolonialist ambitions.
14:58The alliance of Sahel states accuses foreign powers of carrying out a false withdrawal
15:02from the region.

15:42Welcome back.
15:43A 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Cuba early Monday morning.
15:47The National Center for Seismological Research reported that the tremor was registered at
15:521 a.m. local time.
15:53Preliminary data from the entity indicate that it occurred some 35 kilometers southwest
15:57of Chivirico, main town of Guamá municipality in Santiago de Cuba.
16:02Experts further detailed that the earthquake has been felt in Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo,
16:06Camaguey and Ciego de Ávila.
16:07In addition, the authority reported there are no registered deaths, injuries or significant
16:13material damage.
16:14Noting they keep monitoring the seismological activity in the area.
16:22And in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum ratified to the President-elect of the United
16:26States that she would not accept any type of interference.
16:30In this way, she responded to the declarations of the Republican Donald Trump, who stated
16:34among the range of intimidations he made on Sunday to several countries in the world that
16:38he would declare the Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations.
16:42In this context, the head of state ratified that she maintains the same tenor of previous
16:46communications with the next president and reminded the world that Mexico is not subordinate
16:52to the United States.
17:03I said it in the letter I wrote to President Donald Trump, who will take office in January
17:09of next year.
17:10The drugs are mainly consumed there.
17:23The weapons come from there.
17:25And here we put our lives, no, we collaborate, coordinate, work together, but we will never
17:32subordinate ourselves.
17:35Mexico is a free, sovereign and independent country, and we do not accept interference
17:41in our country.
17:45In El Salvador, social movements continue to protest the thousands of layoffs being
17:49implemented by the government as a pressure from the International Monetary Fund to reduce
17:53public spending.
17:54During the activity called El Cacerolazo, social organizations expressed their rejection
17:59of the illegal layoffs carried out by the government of President Nayib Bukele.
18:03Demonstrators also expressed their concern for the impact that these cuts have on essential
18:07public services, highlighting the closure of health care units.
18:11Should be noted that the layoffs affected employees of ministries, autonomous agencies,
18:15municipalities and entities such as the Supreme Court of Justice and the Supreme Electoral
18:19Court.
18:24And the Venezuelan government works intensively on the development of the 18 key sectors of
18:28the economy as part of the national plan for the country's recovery.
18:32Venezuelan Minister Delsa Rodriguez supervised the production system capacity of the Western
18:36Basin in Zulia State, and inspected the Ana María Campos Petrochemical Complex and the
18:42Bajo Grande thermoelectric plant.
18:45Venezuela plans to increase its oil production up to two million barrels per day, besides
18:49exporting gas for the first time in its history.
18:53And the great jungle of southeastern Venezuela is a large forest with rock formations rising
18:58up to the sky.
18:59The Great Savannah, where the Canaima National Park is located, and which in 1994 UNESCO declared
19:05a World Heritage Site, is an earthly paradise that invites us to explore its wonders.
19:13Canaima National Park, whose surface area exceeds three million hectares, is the largest
19:18The Canaima National Park, whose surface area exceeds three million hectares, is among
19:23the six largest national parks in the world.
19:26A territory dominated by tepuis, these flattop plateaus have been carved over millions of
19:32years, and some even reach heights of up to 3,000 meters above sea level.
19:36A unique landscape on Earth that harbors an incredible biological variety.
19:48This park is home to more than 700 species of birds, 100 species of mammals, and thousands
19:54of plants.
19:55It is a fragile and valuable ecosystem, where nature expresses itself in all its splendor.
20:02Waterfalls such as the Churan Meru, the highest in the world, rivers that cross the savanna,
20:07and colorful lagoons that reflect the sky, complete this picture of incomparable beauty.
20:19The value of Canaima is not only environmental, but also political and historical.
20:25In 1999, the Venezuelan Constitution recognized the rights of indigenous peoples to their
20:31ancestral lands, and it stood as a living result of this new relationship between the
20:36state and the native peoples.
20:38The stories tell tales of struggle.
20:40Since its creation in 1962, the park would have been under siege by forces such as illegal
20:45mining and deforestation.
20:47However, thanks to collective efforts involving Peman communities, environmental groups, and
20:53even the Venezuelan government, it has managed to protect this natural treasure for future
20:58generations.
20:59Canaima is a unique gift that Venezuela offers to the world.
21:03A place where nature manifests itself in all its grandeur, and where cultures remind us
21:09of the importance of living in harmony with the planet.
21:18Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
