00:00If you happen to visit Lille and the sun is shining, you cannot escape the charm of this
00:19friendly and fascinating city of contrasts.
00:47The city is located just a few kilometers south of the invisible border with Belgium
00:51and is part of Flanders.
00:56In recent decades, it has transformed itself from a major industrial hub into a glittering
01:01cultural and commercial center.
01:04During the three days we visit here, we experience the charming old town with its magnificent
01:09French and Flemish architecture, visit a renowned art museum, admire stylish shopping and enjoy
01:14the excellent local cuisine.
01:23So what does a family from Lille do on a sunny weekend?
01:26They go for a walk.
01:28A favorite destination is the park around the citadel, in the shade, with the animals
01:32of the little zoo.
01:55Every day we were in the old town walking along the same streets and always discovering
01:59something new.
02:00And so it happens that we enter the museum of the Hospice Comtesse.
02:04Founded in 1237 by Countess Joan of Flanders, the Hospice Comtesse sheltered the sick and
02:09pilgrims.
02:11Its foundation was part of a broad movement to create hospices, which became more common
02:15in the 12th and 13th centuries.
02:17Today it houses the Museum of Art and History of the city.
