00:00My name's Nicky and I'm Mason's mum. I was actually out with me friends and I wasn't,
00:09you know, very far away. And my phone, my mobile went. And obviously it was the police.
00:17They rang for Mason's phone. Straight away I said, all right, all right, Mason, I'm coming
00:23home now. Because I was literally sort of up the road. Police officer said this is Ableton
00:29Somerset Constabulary. Your son's been stabbed. He's in a critical condition. And like straight
00:38away I thought, I'm not going to laugh. I thought it was just stupid. And I basically,
00:43and I felt really bad because I just said, oh, shut up. Well, you know, and I put the phone down
00:48and he said, no, no, no, this is, I said, oh, you're talking crap. Shut up. Just, I don't know
00:53why I thought, I just thought, I just thought someone was messing about. You know what I mean?
00:58Anyway, so I was actually on my way home. So I actually got a taxi home and the taxi driver said
01:03to me, oh, I don't know what's going on at, you know, this road, but police everywhere and
01:09helicopters. I'm like, and then it twigged a little bit and I thought, nah. So as I come up to my road,
01:18I couldn't even get to my street. It was all taped off. I had to run. And obviously then I seen a
01:24couple of the neighbours and a couple of little kids that said, oh, it's all right, Mason's in
01:29the house. So I thought, what's going on? And then someone said to me, no, no, no, he's in the
01:36ambulance. I'm like, what is going on? You know, you've got two ambulances. The police won't let
01:41me past. I think a friend said, oh, you know what? I'll take you to the BRI. And I'm like,
01:48it's just, it was just like a dream.
01:52At around 11.20pm last night, we received a report two people had been stabbed in an attack
01:58carried out by a group of people on Pilminster Avenue. The first officer was on scene within
02:03minutes and did what they could to provide first aid before the boys were taken to hospital by the
02:08ambulance service. Tragically, neither survived their injuries.
02:19Things happen. Maybe the park, you know, a bus stop, in the shop, outside your house. He was
02:26the youngest of my children. He was just, I mean, everyone will tell you Mason was a very, very
02:32quiet boy. He was a really good kid. And he'd loved his PlayStation. A typical day, he'd come
02:38home from school, he'd be upstairs in his bedroom, I'd be down here on my own. And he'd be ringing
02:42me on his mobile. Ma, what's for tea? And you know, he'd always want an Uber. You know, can we
02:48have a McDonald's? He was actually on his, he was actually on his PlayStation when I left.
02:54And I did say to him, I said, Mason, I said, you know, we can have a tea. He said, oh, I'm going
02:58to get a McDonald's, an Uber. So I put the money in. So I put the money in his bank account.
03:09And I put that 20 pound in his account. And before I left, I said, are you going to get your Uber?
03:17Oh, I can't. I can't talk to you now, Mum. Don't worry about McDonald's at the minute. I'm in a
03:22game. I can't. Now I'm having, you know, he's online with his mate. And he said, it's not the
03:28right time, Mum. It's not the right time to talk about McDonald's. I said, all right, make sure you
03:32get it. He said, all right, well, I ain't going to bloody die, am I, if we don't get a... I'm not
03:38going to die if we don't get a McDonald's. Mason, I mean, the only time Mason might have gone out
03:47is when, you know, his friend Max would come and just got basically up the road. But I always knew
03:52where he was. He had his phone on him. And he'd either be at Max's house or he'd be at a friend's
03:55house. And, you know, at 15 years of age, you know, friends, you just say to them, well, Nick, you need
04:00to let him out. Oh, no, I'm not letting him out. No, I'm not letting him out. Well, nothing's going
04:04to happen to him, Nick. I'm like, no. We've got kids killing kids. What is it with the knives?
04:09What is it with the knives? I think the sentencing, I think, is an absolute joke.
04:14You'd go and murder someone to get 15 years. If he was here now, he'd be upstairs. He'd come
04:21downstairs, go to the toilet, come down asking for food. But he'd stay in his room on that PlayStation.
04:27And that one night, for one night, I went out. This is what happened. And I wasn't here.
