00:00The founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, was released on Monday and left the United Kingdom.
00:07The 52-year-old Australian reached an agreement of guilt with the United States justice,
00:13according to which he would be released after years of detention in London, according to
00:17judicial documents publicly known on Monday night.
00:21The agreement states that he must appear before a federal court in the Marianas Islands,
00:25a US territory in the Pacific, where he is expected to declare himself guilty of conspiracy
00:30to obtain and reveal information related to national defense.
00:34Assange was detained in a high-security prison near the British capital since
00:392019, and faced the risk of a 175-year prison sentence in the United States, in
00:45virtue of the law on existing espionage in the North American country.
00:49Assange fought not to be handed over to the US justice, which pursues him for having
00:54published since 2010 more than 700,000 confidential documents on US military and diplomatic activities,
01:02in particular in Iraq and Afghanistan.
01:04Two British judges allowed Julian Assange the right to appeal on May 20 to stop
01:10his extradition, and in March they asked the US authorities to ensure that the Australian
01:16could accept the first amendment to the constitution that protects freedom of expression and that
01:21he would not be sentenced to death penalty.
01:24Assange's relatives have warned of the deterioration of his health, and his defense warned of the
01:29risk of suicide in the event of extradition.
