Kathy Nimmer began her career at Harrison High School.

She has earned numerous awards and accolades over her more than 30-year career,

from 2015 Indiana Teacher of the Year to Sagamore of the Wabash recipient.

While honored, she measures her successes as an educator through her everyday interactions.

What draws us to this profession is the opportunity to influence young lives

and help them grow stronger and better and more able to, you know, to reach into their future.

At a young age, Kathy began to lose her vision.

In school, she relied on her teachers to read.

That impact is what inspired her to become an educator herself.

That was my first introduction to what an educator does in that one-on-one environment,

and I just knew I wanted to be that kind of a help for someone else.

Outside the classroom, Kathy enjoys writing, making jewelry, and going on walks with her guide dog.

She's looking forward to what the next chapter will bring.

My whole adult life, I've been a TSC educator,

so I want to figure out who that person is and what ways I can give my gifts to others in a different way.
