00:00One of the ways to reduce the stress of some of our countrymen is drinking alcohol.

00:05But did you know that the DOST-FNRI has an alarming study?

00:09This is the increase of the number of binge drinkers, or those who drink too much alcohol.

00:14And the age of these people is younger and younger,

00:17which is the target of the government.

00:20Rod Lagusan is in the center of the news.

00:24A high number of young people who drink alcohol.

00:28This came out of the 2023 National Nutrition Survey of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, or FNRI,

00:34of the Department of Science and Technology.

00:36Based on the data of the FNRI,

00:3851.8% of adolescents in the age group of 10 to 19 years old are considered binge drinkers.

00:46Binge drinking is drinking too much alcohol.

00:49It's equivalent to 4 or more bottles each containing 320 milliliters.

00:55This means that you can drink it in one sitting and repeat it several times in the past 30 days.

01:01This is one of the things that we can look at or review,

01:06what happened in terms of behavioral shift, especially among young people.

01:13So I think there are many of us now who have a YOLO attitude.

01:19Maybe after the pandemic, it became more recreational.

01:25At the same time, we also saw an increase in the lack of physical activity in the so-called age group.

01:31Based on the data, 75.5% or 3 out of 4 adolescents lack physical activity.

01:38When binge drinking and lack of exercise is included,

01:41the risk of diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and other heart diseases is high.

01:47According to the FNRI, intervention is a big thing here at a young age.

01:51I think that's also the target of policies.

01:53It's no longer in adulthood, which is, we know that it's kind of hard to halt.

02:00It's because of the behavior, it's more on, like, they're...

02:07Pure pressure.

02:08Oh yeah, pure pressure and others are addicted.

02:12The data also shows an increase in binge drinking among adults, 58.7%,

02:17and older persons, 44.9%,

02:20which is also accompanied by an increase in the lack of physical activity among adults.

02:25What we can recommend, and I hope our fellow Filipinos can do,

02:31is to have physical activity every day.

02:34For WHO, what we recommend is 30 minutes of physical activity in a day.

02:44When it comes to older persons, 6 out of 10 lack physical activity.

02:49According to the FNRI, adults should have physical activity along with a healthy lifestyle,

02:54healthy eating patterns, and avoiding vices such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
