00:00My favorite things about Star Wars are practical effects and puppets.

00:03Hey, who did that?

00:05You kind of watched those and you were like,

00:06that looks achievable at the same time that it looks otherworldly.

00:11All the creature effects and animatronics that we get to play with.

00:14You're so weird looking.

00:16The authenticity of real objects and real things on camera has been really fun.

00:22The crab monster, I said, we should do it in stop motion,

00:25thinking that everyone would be like, no, that's insane.

00:27I said that.

00:28That's insane.

00:30Bill Tippett and his team built this puppet,

00:32and each shot takes two weeks.

00:36It just brings out joy in general, coming to work,

00:39working with different aliens and creatures, working with droids.

00:42It's just so much fun.

00:45Why did you bring us to a pirate port full of pirates?

00:48Because we are also pirates.

00:50SM33, you immediately forget that there's a puppet performer behind it,

00:55and you just start giving directions to the puppet.

00:57Where are you taking us?

01:00Just seeing how he comes alive,

01:02I'm in awe of the team and how they make him so realistic.

01:06Neil is an incredible character, and we all love Neil.

01:10He's the loose cannon in the best sense of the word.

01:13Incredible loose cannon.

01:16We're getting good at falling.

01:17Part of the joy of having a character that is a creature

01:20is that it is truly a team effort.

01:23There's legacy effects, the team at ILM.

01:26You need someone inside of the suit of the creature.

01:29Hey, housewife, how are you doing?

01:31And then you need a team of puppeteers.

01:34All these people standing on the edge of frame with remote controls

01:37doing the trunk and the eyes and the expressions,

01:39they just have it down.

01:40They were very adamant that they didn't just want a puppet,

01:43they wanted the interaction between the characters.

01:46We felt very confident in the animatronic that Legacy was able to deliver.

01:50I need you to take the controls.

01:55I have loved the opportunity of working with the puppeteers,

01:59the droid creatures, and it's been a blast.
