00:00Inklusive Education in Uzbekistan has been prioritized in recent years.
00:15The goal is to provide all children with special needs with the opportunity to attend a mainstream
00:21school.
00:22In this episode of Learning World we are diving into the heart of inclusive education in Uzbekistan,
00:28exploring schools and teacher training centers that are dedicated to supporting children of all abilities.
00:40Our first stop is a classroom in Tashkent where 7-year-olds are starting their day with a maths lesson.
00:47Here we see how children with a range of abilities and needs are fully part of the learning experience.
00:59In this classroom there are three children with special needs.
01:05Their teacher, Mubarak Azizeva, attended specialized inclusive education courses last summer,
01:11where she learned from her colleagues from France.
01:28Halima Nazarova has a tutor helping her during the classes.
01:41Halima's mother says that in just a couple of months there have been some inspiring results.
01:59Since September the school welcomes children with various special needs.

02:26This equipment was provided with the support of UNICEF, which is closely collaborating
02:31with the government to enhance the system of inclusive education in Uzbekistan.
02:37We have seen a tremendous change in the past five years when it comes to children with disabilities.
02:43In 2020 there was a presidential decree to incorporate children in the regular schools.
02:50And since then, in 2021, we supported the government to ratify the convention on people with disabilities.
02:59Uzbekistan's government is working closely with various international organizations
03:04to develop inclusive education in the country.
03:06One of the programs, All Children Succeeding, is implemented by USAID.
03:12This is directly in support of the government's initiative to have 51% of schools
03:17practicing inclusive education by the year 2025.
03:21This is a program that's focused first and foremost on human capital,
03:25so making sure that teachers are equipped and ready and confident
03:29to practice and implement inclusive education practices in their classrooms.
03:35With each passing year, there are an increasing number of schools with inclusive classrooms across the country.
03:41The new Constitution of the Republic has been included in the law on inclusive education.
03:46We take the best foreign experience and implement it in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
03:51Our goal is to implement inclusive education in all schools in the Republic of Uzbekistan
03:56and to make it available to every child.
04:02I visited one of the teacher trainings at the Avlon Institute in Tashkent.
04:07The number of skills that are required to effectively conduct inclusive classes.
04:12A barrier-free environment means that the child does not have any barriers
04:16in the school to receive education,
04:18neither psychological, nor social, nor emotional.
04:22We teach our teachers to find an approach to each child,
04:27to consider their uniqueness,
04:29so that no matter what the child's specialties are,
04:32they see their school as a second home.
04:41Socialization in adult life, empathy and increased self-esteem
04:45are just a few of the advantages of inclusive education.
04:48And Uzbekistan has set ambitious goals to ensure that no child is left behind.
