00:27which organized a protest at the Lombardy Regional Council against ICE.
00:32Milan's mayor Giuseppe Salla went further, telling Italian radio that ICE was a militia that kills
00:38and that it was not welcome in Milan.
00:40Italian authorities had initially denied that ICE agents would be prisoned at all.
00:44They later clarified their position, saying any US personnel would be involved
00:49only in the protection of the American delegation.
00:51The truth is, the unit in question is Homeland Security Investigations, ICE's investigative arm.
00:58These officers are part of a different unit from the operational immigration enforcement agents
01:03involved in the fatal shooting of two American citizens in Minneapolis.
01:07The HSIE's role focuses on intelligence analysis, database checks,
01:12and cooperation on transnational crime risks.
01:15Italy's Interior Ministry has been unequivocal,
01:17stating that all territorial security operations will remain under the exclusive responsibility
01:24and direction of the Italian authorities.
01:27The International Olympic Committee also confirmed to the Cube
01:30that security at the Games remains the responsibility of the host country,
01:34working with participating delegations.
