00:00For Catholics, going to Mass on a Sunday is not unusual, but on December the 8th, for

00:06the first time since April 2019, a service was held inside Notre Dame, and the main altar

00:14was formally consecrated.

00:16On Saturday, a lavish ceremony was held to celebrate the reopening, with a light show

00:20outside the building, and a concert taking place inside, with orchestral pieces and Christian

00:26hymns.

00:27Later, President Emmanuel Macron started the reopening ceremony with a set-piece speech.

00:34We chose the surge to rebuild, the will, the course of hope.

00:38We decided to rebuild Notre Dame even more beautiful in five years.

00:43The surge, the will, and to make this possible an unprecedented fraternity, fraternity of

00:49those who have given on all continents, of all religions, of all fortunes, united by

00:56hope and gathered within these walls.

00:59Notre Dame is a world-famous monument, and world leaders attended the event, including

01:04the US President-elect Donald Trump and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

01:13Sunday marks the day that the public are able to go inside Notre Dame for the first time

01:17in five and a half years.

01:19And with up to 40,000 people expected every day in the weeks ahead, places are limited

01:25and have to be booked online.

01:27Demand has been very high to go in and be among the first people to see inside the Gothic

01:32landmark now that it's open.
