We're focusing on various myths that we need to debunk
00:04
and this one you're going to like because we're going to talk about
00:07
correlation between frequency of ejaculation and also prostate cancer.
00:19
Contrary to common belief in the East especially when you ejaculate too much
00:24
then you might actually bring down your Qi.
00:26
Some people even believe that you might end up with kidney failures
00:30
and in the West they always worry about whether there's a risk of getting
00:36
prostate cancer with frequent ejaculation.
00:39
So believe it or not in US there was a study called the Harvard Ejaculation Study.
00:46
In this study they focus at more than 29,000 men in the New England area.
00:53
These are all the volunteers telling the actual investigator how frequent they ejaculated.
01:00
So there was a group of men in the younger age group and the middle age
01:05
and focusing them from 1986 until year 2000
01:10
and they declare how often they either have nocturnal emission or masturbation or intercourse.
01:18
And in this study believe it or not with number of frequency of sex or ejaculation that you have
01:27
the risk of prostate cancer can reduce by up to 36%.
01:32
So in this study one group of men declaring between 4 to 7 times of ejaculation per month
01:39
versus 21 times a month the risk difference is 36% of getting prostate cancer in older age.
01:48
So is this really a study that can be replicated?
01:52
In fact in Down Under in Australia they looked at 2,338 men with a similar outcome.
02:01
Essentially looking at men who ejaculated almost on a daily basis
02:06
versus the men who only ejaculated between 4 to 7 times a month
02:12
again the difference is about 30% reduction in prostate cancer.
02:18
So in summary frequent ejaculation probably is protective rather than risky for the cancer
02:28
development. Some critics say that if you have more frequent ejaculation by definition you're
02:34
probably healthier who knows but the risk is probably not there in developing cancer in the
02:42
future. For the following week there's another myth we need to debunk it's talking about
02:48
frequency of ejaculation correlations with your sperm quality.
02:52
If you're interested stay tuned for next week's Putting Dr G on the Spot.
