Pope Francis goes electric with new eco-friendly 'Popemobile' from Mercedes-Benz

The Pope will use the electric Mercedes G-Class to greet crowds during General Audiences and other official ceremonies.

00:05It is the first of its kind as it's fully electric and will therefore have zero emissions.

00:11The vehicle comes in its traditional white color.

00:14It has an elevated and rotating heated chair for the Pope as well as rear platforms for

00:21It's a great honor for us today to hand over the Popemobile to the Holy Father at Mercedes-Benz.

00:28We have almost a hundred years tradition.

00:31The first car was handed over in 1930 to Pope Pius XI, but today for Pope Francis we have

00:38something very special.

00:40It is the very first Popemobile that is fully electric based upon the electric, all-electric

00:46G-Class that we launched this year.

00:49It is unclear when the vehicle will come into service, but Pope Francis is expected to use

00:54it to drive through St. Peter's Square during the 2025 Jubilee.
