00:01Mont Blanc has grown taller. Western Europe's highest peak now stands at 4,807.47 metres,
00:10nearly two metres higher than in 2023. That's an altitude close to the historic figure recorded
00:16at the end of the 19th century, according to surveyors from Haute Savoie, who have been
00:20regularly measuring the summit since 2001. This calls for caution, though. A single measurement
00:27like this can't be used to draw conclusions about the effects of climate change, since
00:32Mont Blanc's altitude varies with the weather.
00:43To refine their observations, the surveyors used ground-penetrating radar to map the ice
00:50cap and the rocky summit beneath it. Valuable data for tracking changes to the roof of Western
00:56Europe in the years ahead.
