00:00Talking about death, get it out. Take it out. I'm Dusty Baker. I'm half of this show. If
00:09I want to put a toothpick in, I put a toothpick in. Don't make me take it out. You can't put
00:19a toothpick in your mouth and not be Dusty Baker and look good. That's what I'm saying.
00:24Norm did it before Dusty. Norm didn't do it at his party. He didn't have a toothpick in
00:30his party. You don't do it anymore. Did you show Norm your pushups? No, I didn't. I'll show
00:35them today. In your form? As a former Navy member? Yeah, I didn't show them. I'll show them today.
00:41We just want the funding, Evan. What happened to the funding? Because you were shocked that I
00:46didn't have the two bill. You're secure today. Who will? You. You said you'll get it from Lowe.
00:51Yeah. Yeah. All right. Lowe Lowe. By the way, I got three. You know, I have a list.
00:58You know, I have a list. I got a list and you don't want to get on my list.
01:02Wow. I'm saying, you know, who's on my list right now? The Kings are on my list. Obviously,
01:06they're terrible. Uh, I'll tell you who's high on my list right now. Danny Hurley. Oh boy. He's a
01:13heel. I'm out. And then, uh, here's what I think is kind of funny. Uh, the media is now on my list
01:19too. Myself included. Listen to some of these headlines. All right. And then we'll get into
01:25take your time. Uh, Buster Posey hints, Madison Bumgarner interested in joining staff
01:31giants. Buster Posey hints at possible Madison, Madison Bumgarner return, uh, Buster Posey
01:40giants, quote unquote, excited about possible Madison Bumgarner reunion. So then I start
01:46reading the story and it says, well, it would be a real limited role. It might be, yeah,
01:52he'll show up at spring training. I got to show up at spring training. Order the rings. Yeah. Come
02:00on. Oh man. The Dodgers are signing snail and the Giants are having sleepovers. How about this one?
02:09Does anybody really think Madison Bumgarner would be good in a front office? No. Well,
02:14Giants need a lefty now. Man. Can't throw. He's a whores. That is true. All right. Let's get into
02:20some Niners. No, no, we're going to keep it serious with the Niners, but we're going to get into them.
02:26Uh, here's a, okay. The one thing we've been talking about with the Niners is, uh, Kyle
02:31Shanahan is reluctant to change. All right. He's got a system and he uses it. Greg Cosell was on
02:38with, uh, the three guys yesterday who were seven for Willie. Don't make me say five guys.
02:44Lonnie Hutch and Grandy. You're a great teammate. You are the best. Uh, five names. Nobody wants to.
02:52Okay. Low and low Hutchinson. And his first name's what? Jake. I'm kidding. Jake. 49er guy and
03:01Grandy. They were in for Willard and dibs. And, uh, they asked Greg Cosell about, um, Kyle Shanahan
03:07and his willingness to change. This is Greg Cosell. You know how it is when a team's been really good
03:13and sometimes I think people forget how good the Niners have been. See, they haven't won a
03:17Superbowl. So there are probably some people who think, oh, they're not good, but I mean,
03:20they've been really good for a number of years. I would imagine, well, I know this for a fact,
03:25cause I've talked to coaches, not their coaches. I mean, coaches over the years in my job,
03:30it's very difficult to decide to change something that has been really effective for a long time.
03:37I know fans think that's easy. Oh, just change. It's not working today, but you know, that's a
03:41hard thing to do because you've been really successful doing it. Yeah. Oh, but just bring,
03:47you know, let's use the, uh, wishbone. Let's use the wishbone with McCaffrey use check and
03:53Jordan Mason. Hey, you know what the hell let's put Garendo in there too. It's not, you know,
03:59you guys make it sound easy. I get what he's saying. Cause then stop asking the question why
04:05they don't do things. The Superbowl, the offense was impotent and that had nothing to do with
04:10that had nothing to do with Mason. The, the playoff run last year, the offense was impotent.
04:16Okay. That's just me against the lions. That 30 missed me. They had seven at halftime and the
04:21coach botched that. Hey, I used to miss me with that. They were down 17 at half. Hey,
04:29missed me. So I, I didn't realize that, uh, there's a new rule that if you score in the
04:33second half, it doesn't count for your total points. You didn't show up offensively. The
04:38first half was my point. 31 in the second, they gave them, they helped you do that in the coach.
04:43And anyway, go ahead. You know what? You were on my list of what I was thinking of. You were fifth.
04:50It is, you are screwed. You will get no love from me. I scratched it, Evan. Yeah, go ahead. So,
04:57you know, it's just one thing. You always make it sound like it's real easy. No, just do this,
05:02do that, do the other thing. And Greg Cosell has been around a little longer than you. And he's
05:06like, it's not that easy. Um, so that flies in the face of something you said. And, uh, here's
05:12another thing that flies in the face of another thing. He said, Debo Samuel, he stinks, right?
05:18Greg, he's a big problem. Debo Samuel is not really relevant to the conversation as to what's
05:24going on with the 49ers. Um, Debo Samuel is a schemed player. Debo Samuel is not a top five
05:31receiver in the league in terms of twitchiness, route running ability, ability to separate. He's
05:36a schemed player who has to be part of an offense. Debo Samuel is not really relevant to the
05:42conversation. What happened on Sunday was when you play with a backup quarterback and a quarterback
05:47that hasn't started a game since 2021, you need two things to happen. You need your offensive line
05:52to be dominant. So your run game can be a factor and you need your defense to play at a really high
05:58level. Neither one of those things happen. This game had nothing to do with Debo Samuel.
06:03Oh, Cosell, I love you to death, but there are three things. When the ball hits you in the midst
06:09and you're getting 28-5, catch the rock. That's what he's saying, irrelevant. I love me some
06:14Cosell, but please, what are you talking about? When the ball is thrown your way, catch it.
06:19You know what would be an unbelievable show? Greg Cosell and Goo.
06:25That would be unbelievable. Why? Why would that hurt you? Because he basically took Debo off the
06:31hook in regard to that one play. A lot of what you said was fancy, but at the end of the day,
06:36the ball comes. No, Steiner, he didn't just drop it. It resulted in a turnover.
06:41You're not going to like to hear this. That's why I was coming down Shasky's
06:43road this morning. He was caping for Debo and what Debo has meant. It's not a lifetime Shasky
06:50achievement award. You are right. Shasky and I talked about doing a spinoff of different strokes
06:55because we've got a lot of similarities, the black and white thing, but I don't want to say
06:59some of the private conversations we have, but you had that same energy Shasky towards Clay.
07:05I'm telling on you. You had it on Clay on air, off air. Don't act brand new and be a hypocrite in
07:11regard to people saying when they need Debo the most, he's failed. Then he attacked a player.
07:17I'm calling it attack and that's not a leader. Pepper. And what if that was one of your daughters?
07:25What if that was little Benji? Uh, uh, who's it? Benji Spadoni. Yeah. Yeah. Benny, you guys would
07:32look at that, that, that act that he did more maliciously than, oh, it was just an act of love.
07:39I'm just saying Debo has been a great one, but they need him now. And he's a no-show and the
07:44great ball dinger has resorted to now calling them as a gadget receiver, please. Well, of course,
07:52if Debo Samuel would have done that to a daughter of mine, it would be viewed differently. I'm just
07:58saying if that was your son, it was, that was your son. It was a nothing bird. No, the bottom line
08:02is keep your hand to yourself because you do that anywhere here near me. You'll remember it. It'll
08:07be the last time you take on Debo. No, I'm talking to you. You wouldn't put your hands on anybody at
08:12work. Well, that's true, but I don't play professional football. It's a different game.
08:18Don't worry about it. Go put some stick up, stick them on your hands, catch the balls by the backups
08:23and rather telling people what they're not doing pepper. You know, that was a bad look, man. That's
08:28all three weeks ago. Well, you said something's going on inside that locker room. I'm sure that
08:33didn't help. Something's been going on, on, on that locker room since the Superbowl.
08:38Things like that don't help to me. Did you hear the first part of his comment though?
08:43Give it to us again. Hold on. Let's listen. Debo Samuel is not really relevant to the
08:50conversation as to what's going on with the 49ers. Debo Samuel is a schemed player. Debo Samuel is
08:57not a top five receiver in the league in terms of twitchiness, route running ability, ability to
09:03separate. He's a schemed player who has to be part of an offense. Debo Samuel is not really
09:08relevant to the... That was like the caller that gave me the compliment, but it was backhanded
09:13about an hour ago. Yeah, basically said Debo's cooked. Man. Remember the guy that called you
09:18were grinning when he's like, Guru, I really don't. Hold on. Did you hear cooked? Oh my gosh.
09:27Really? Yeah. Like Debo Samuel is not a factor. Well, I heard that if you want Debo Samuel to get
09:32the ball, you almost have to put it in his hands, you know, yourself. You know what? I'm gonna say
09:37this, and I've been thinking about this, the whole play with Debo Samuel. Of course he's gonna get
09:44heat for not catching that. You know what? That's the difference between a backup quarterback and
09:49Brock Purdy. I don't think Brock Purdy throws that one. You know why? Because he knows his
09:53personnel. And that's not the place to get Debo Samuel the ball, in that kind of tight space.
10:00Like, I don't think Purdy would have thrown that ball. Well, in the Super Bowl, I know you're not
10:03gonna remember, in overtime, it almost ended on the first possession. What happened? It hit his
10:08hard-ass hands, Debo, and almost bounced up and was an interception on the first play.
10:14And I'm just saying, Debo's gotta, I don't, Purdy trusts Debo, like, that's your receiver.
10:19That's who you're going to battle with. But Stoney, I've seen him make that pass to Debo.
10:22And all I'm saying is, Shatsky, you are right in regard to people saying, oh, get him out of here.
10:27It's not to that. But I turned on Debo as far as, when he did that thing to Pepper, he lost me,
10:33when you don't back it up. That's all with your play. Not be perfect when you don't back it up.
10:39And I'm sorry, Cosell, I'm one of your biggest fans, to say he had nothing to do with that game
10:45Sunday, when the ball, it was right there. One play. But one play can get you beat. And if I'm
10:50paying you 30 million, is that asking too much for you to do your job and catch the ball? Yes,
10:56on that kind of play, that's not who he is. What do you mean, that kind of play?
10:59It's like, it's like, use your hands and catch. It's like asking Kavon Looney to shoot threes.
11:04It's like, he's not comfortable doing that. And you know what? And honestly,
11:07if you want to talk about trust, Purdy's got less trust in Debo Samuel than McCaffrey,
11:13than Kittle, and then Jennings. And Iyuk when Iyuk's healthy. Those are just facts.
11:19And the numbers are backing that up. Exactly. Like, Debo Samuel.
11:23How many, how many times do people have to tell you who Debo Samuel is before we believe them?
11:29Well, and again, I'm not, oh gosh, you know, again, and we know what he's meant. And it's,
11:36he's been incredible. But right now they need you. And I just feel like he needs to be, again,
11:41redundant, wash, repeat. But Stony, worry about your craft before you start choking or trying
11:47to choke cats. That's all. He did not choke anybody. He put his hands on, on his teammate.
11:55That's different. Be more specific. Latrell Sprewell choked PJ Carlissima. Behind the
12:03scenes in practice. Not saying that was better. So there's better? No, don't try to get me.
12:08Terrible analogy. By me. Debo catches balls. Can't compare Looney shooting threes when
12:18Looney doesn't do that. Close your eyes and picture how Debo Samuel gets the football.
12:26Very rarely is it on a play like the one where he let the ball go through his hands. And you know
12:32what? I'll say it this way. 9-2-5. Wide receiver's job is catching. Catch the damn ball. No doubt.
12:38He's a running back. He's not a great receiver. He's not. How many times do we have to see stuff
12:44like this to realize that Debo Samuel's not a traditional receiver? You can't use him that way.
12:50I mean, Brian Baldinger called him a gadget guy. Red Cosell said he's not relevant, basically.
