You have no right to think that you are so beautiful.
00:04
Not fair.
00:06
I think it's fair that everyone wants to take care of their skin maybe.
00:09
But I think overdoing it, over layering products, using anything and everything around and what
00:16
your friend told you may not be the right way to go.
00:24
Nowadays I get numerous people coming to me and all of them are using something or the
00:29
other.
00:30
With this pandemic, we've all been sitting at home and Instagramming the whole day.
00:35
And from there, there are so many products as well as devices which are in use.
00:41
One of them, of course, are toners.
00:43
So everyone will ask me, what should I do for CTM?
00:47
That's cleansing, toning, moisturizing.
00:50
Everyone may not need a CTM.
00:52
Even if you need cleansing and moisturizing, a toner may or may not be used.
00:56
It's not very, very necessary, is what I mean.
01:08
Vitamin C serum tops my list of something which everyone is using, but it may not be
01:14
something which would suit everyone, particularly those with acne prone skin.
01:20
I'd urge them maybe not to jump to using a vitamin C serum because that can cause acne
01:26
itself.
01:27
Any serum, a serum means a highly concentrated product.
01:30
So anything with a high concentration can tend to be a bit sticky at times and can lead
01:35
to acne.
01:36
Vitamin C is not going to make all your pigmentation go away as it claims to.
01:42
Vitamin C is great for texture, it's great for some pigment or unevenness and a nice
01:48
glow to the face.
01:49
You should see the pH of vitamin C, however, most brands will not mention it.
01:54
Ideally, vitamin C should be in an amber colored bottle.
01:58
Anything wherein you're opening the cap like this and using your vitamin C may not be the
02:02
best idea because it will be exposed to air.
02:05
Concentration of vitamin C at least 10%, if not 20%.
02:08
10 to 20% is a good idea.
02:11
Anything below that is not going to work.
02:17
Retinol is basically a form of vitamin A.
02:21
Retinol is a step one anti-aging product and it's very, very rampant worldwide, globally
02:28
used.
02:29
But if you've got sensitive skin, it may be a good idea to consult your dermatologist
02:33
because you'd maybe like to build it up slowly, the concentration on your skin, just to assess
02:38
how you're doing.
02:39
Because retinol's work is that it peels the skin.
02:42
It causes a little bit exfoliation of the dead cells.
02:47
Once it does that, it gives a glow, a brightening effect, as well as works on fine lines and
02:52
wrinkles.
02:58
AHA is called alpha hydroxy acid and BHA is called a beta hydroxy acid.
03:04
Even though they're called acids, most of these are derived from natural things.
03:08
Both these products, since they're acids, again, they cause a little bit of peeling
03:12
effect.
03:14
You'll have serums, you'll have sleeping masks, you'll have creams, all with alpha and beta
03:19
hydroxy acids.
03:20
Beta hydroxy acid is great for acne.
03:24
It's great for skin with a slight redness.
03:27
So it's got an anti-inflammatory effect, meaning that it decreases redness.
03:31
It decreases the heat on the face.
03:33
And glycolic acid or the alpha hydroxy acid is basically used for pigmentation and brightening.
03:40
So it's a good idea to start with a lower concentration and then build up the concentration.
03:45
A good concentration for the face would be 6-10%.
03:49
That's a good concentration.
03:50
You could go up, but be careful.
03:52
For the body, even a 12% is fine.
03:55
For knees, elbows, underarms, so on and so forth.
03:58
As for the beta hydroxy acid, mostly the products would have a 2% beta hydroxy acid.
04:05
If someone's got oily skin, they can maybe start with a slightly higher concentration
04:09
straight away because they'll tolerate it.
04:16
Gua Sha stems from age-old traditions wherein they used to use this stone almost to the
04:23
tune of causing bruising or a little bit of scraping of the skin.
04:29
None of us use gua sha like that and none of the models on Instagram or elsewhere in
04:33
the pictures where gua sha is being used are using it like that.
04:37
The gua sha or the jade rollers.
04:41
So you'll see claims such as it contours the face, it lifts the face, it lifts the skin,
04:47
tightens it, so on and so forth.
04:50
So all this is really going to do is increase the circulation of your face.
04:53
It's a feel-good factor, but I don't know if it's going to tone or give you a chiseled
05:00
jawline.
05:01
That's for sure.
05:02
I always tell my patients what you eat and drink reflects on your skin and hair.
05:09
So of course, eat a good balanced diet, cleansing the face twice a day.
05:14
You don't need to do it five times a day.
05:16
That just creates issues.
05:18
Cleansing your face, moisturizing is important.
05:25
So that retains the barrier of your skin.
05:28
So it's a good idea to use the right moisturizer and also a sunscreen.
05:33
Just like you're brushing your teeth if you can get into the habit of keeping the face
05:36
clean.
