Did he write a Christmas album while he was in 6th grade? What was his dream job growing up? What app does he use the most? (Spoiler: It's not TikTok.)

Here's the truth about Charlie Puth.
Transcript
00:00there's people who have written brilliant songs on instruments. I just prefer to take
00:05inanimate objects and find the music within those and then build a song around that.
00:18I was in sixth grade, so before high school.
00:22And will we ever get another Christmas album?
00:26I love Christmas. I love Christmas music, but hopefully it's going to be a little bit better
00:31than my sixth grade Christmas album with the album art made on Microsoft Word.
00:39Carly's vlogs, kind of the same that I do today, but just on YouTube,
00:45making skits and funny songs and serious songs. Nothing's really changed.
00:51I've wanted to be a restaurant owner, but I also kind of want... No, I don't think I wanted
00:59to be a teacher. I like teaching, but I never wanted to be one. I don't think I'm a very good
01:04teacher. You're teaching people on TikTok. I feel like you're walking people through.
01:07You're really good at explaining things. Yeah, I think so. I get a certain joy
01:12out of imparting a wisdom of a different way to do something.
01:21I think my SpongeBob video game is, but for social media, yes, TikTok is definitely the most used.
01:29You might see somebody who wasn't even an artist yesterday make the biggest song in the world
01:34because they're not thinking about making the song, which is in turn very inspiring for me as a
01:40music producer and constantly trying to find new acts and new styles of music to kind of meld my
01:47own music into. TikTok has brought me a lot closer to my fans. I feel like they know me better,
01:53just like I know them better. And I think TikTok allowed the algorithm without getting too techie
01:59is very insistent upon you being yourself no matter what you do. And what I do is music.
02:06And I just happened to kind of put an unpolished version of myself up online that's resonated well,
02:11which I'm very happy about. Yes, it was originally called Conversations With Myself
02:20because there's some truth to that. I had conversations with myself to make this album,
02:25but it felt more fun to name the music after me. What if there was a song called
02:30Charlie Be Quiet and I actually whispered it like, Charlie, be quiet. Don't make a sound.
02:35I did. The rewarding, most rewarding process is being that all these songs are
02:44like therapeutic vehicles for me. When the song was done, I had a little bit of
02:52self-induced closure from finishing all these songs like Smells Like Me. Once that was done,
02:59I didn't feel bad about that situation anymore. So they're vehicles to drive me to a better me.
03:07The biggest difference is how it came together. I was very unprivate about
03:12things and kind of involved what seems like millions of people in every step of the process.
03:20Yes, but I wouldn't even call it the initial version of it. It was a completely different
03:27viewpoint on the project. It wasn't good enough,
03:30honestly. I'm very picky with my music and it just wasn't good enough.
03:37True. Very, very true. For a long time, I was very concerned about being the cool guy
03:46and it didn't really get me anywhere because I was always putting up a front of who I really was.
03:55Now, when people listen to this album, they're going to know about what I went through and
04:02the kind of mental torment that we all, the quicksand of mental torment that we all fall
04:08deep into at times that was circulating through my mind the entire time I was making this album.
04:16I just happened to put some melody and beats to it. Hopefully, people can relate to it as well.
04:25I know my love of collaboration and oversharing is never going to go away in all respect. I want
04:31to kind of just focus on making the music, actual music sound different. Maybe the process doesn't
04:38change or maybe it evolves, but the music is always going to be different. I think this
04:42album sounds completely different from Voice Notes and beyond.
