00:09In a recent experiment, a group of Yale researchers

00:12were able to restore cell function in the vital organs of pigs

00:16that had already been dead for an hour.

00:18The researchers used a specialized machine and synthetic fluid

00:22made of nutrients, nerve blockers, and more

00:24to restart circulation within the cells.

00:27It's called Organ X and it's a method that could potentially

00:31improve the longevity of donor organs or reverse damage to donor organs

00:36that would otherwise be unusable.

00:37With about 20% of donor organs being tossed out due to quality,

00:41the researchers hope that their results will one day be used

00:44to increase the amount of human organs available for transplant.

00:48The researchers did say that the technology involved in the experiments

00:52is not clinically relevant and very far away from use in humans.
