13 years later, people still *really* love "Avatar."

00:00Ahead of its sequel's release later this year, James Cameron's Avatar is back in theaters.
00:04The sci-fi film took four years to make and had a budget of $237 million. When Avatar hit theaters
00:11in 2009, it shattered nearly every box office record. It became the highest grossing movie
00:16of all time with $2.74 billion, dethroning Cameron's other film, Titanic. Avatar held
00:21this record for nearly 10 years, until 2019 when Avengers Endgame reached $2.79 billion
00:28in worldwide revenue. However, in 2021, Avatar was released in China, thus allowing the film
00:33to exceed $2.8 billion in revenue. This allowed it to regain the title of biggest box office
00:39success in history. The 2009 film was re-released in theaters around the world on September 23,
00:442022, and in less than a week, it earned $10 million in the United States and $30 million
00:50worldwide. That means to date, Avatar has almost reached $3 billion in revenue worldwide.
