Beyoncé will remove an offensive lyric from her new album “Renaissance” after facing public criticism.

00:00Beyoncé. Did we not learn anything from Lizzo? Beyoncé is being called out for using an offensive

00:06term on her new album, but we need to talk about the fact that a situation like this

00:10literally just happened. The derogatory term, which is often used to demean people with spastic

00:15cerebral palsy, is used twice in her new song Heated. This was met with heavy criticism by

00:20disability activists, who said it quote, feels like a slap in the face and quote,

00:23reinforces the negative attitudes disabled people face every day. A representative from Beyoncé's

00:28team has since responded, saying that the word was not intentionally used in a harmful way

00:33and will be replaced. But perhaps the most perplexing thing is that Lizzo was widely

00:38criticized for using the same word on her new album just last month. Lizzo quickly responded

00:44to the backlash, saying that she never intended to promote derogatory language and was proud to

00:48quote, listen and take action. She recorded and released a new version of the song without the

00:53offensive lyric. People are calling for the same from Beyoncé, who has yet to personally address

00:57the controversy.
