00:00The Dalai Lama has apologized for asking a little boy to suck his tongue. The Dalai Lama wishes to
00:04apologize to the boy and his family as well as his many friends across the world for the hurt
00:09his words may have caused, according to a statement released by his office. His office went on to say
00:14his holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and
00:20before cameras. The video recently went viral but is from a February 28th event in northern India.
00:25The clip caused outrage on social media, but the 87-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader's supporters
00:31say that his actions are being misinterpreted by others who don't understand the culture.
00:36This is not, however, the first time the Dalai Lama has sparked controversy. During a 2019
00:41interview with the BBC, he said that if a female Dalai Lama was to succeed him, she should be more
00:46attractive than him. And in 2018, when asked about the increased number of African refugees
00:51entering Europe, he said it was better to keep Europe for Europeans.
