00:00Five bodies, including three still wrapped in shrouds, were reburied after being swept
00:06away by waves at the Kampung Penkalan Mara Cemetery in Kuala Nerus.
00:11Village Development and Security Committee Chairman Mohamad Ishamuddin Ismail noted that
00:16the cemetery has long faced erosion threats, especially during the monsoon season.
00:22On Friday night, strong waves from the high-tide phenomenon washed away five graves.
00:28Rescuers successfully recovered the bodies, along with tomb covers, shroud fragments,
00:33bones, and parts of the tomb structures from the sea.
00:36Affected families were notified and assisted in reburying the remains at the Gongwalit
00:41Cemetery in Menggabang, Teliport.
00:44Ishamuddin highlighted that around 200 graves remain at risk and need relocation due to
00:49worsening erosion.
00:51Although a protective wall was built five years ago, it has not withstood the force
00:56of strong tides.
00:58Despite these challenges, villagers continue using the site as the new burial ground frequently
01:03floods.
