And in the framework of the International World Anti-Fascist Youth Congress, we make
00:04
a contact with our correspondent Belén de los Santos, who is at this hour joined by
00:09
INA Daftian Media School representative.
00:12
Hi Bel, what details can you share with us at this hour?
00:15
Hello Ale, exactly, we are here at the Francisco de Miranda Convention Center in Caracas as
00:23
the Youth Congress, the Anti-Fascist Youth Congress is taking place here in Venezuela.
00:30
And as you were saying, there's over 1,000 delegates that are joining Venezuela here
00:36
now to discuss, debate relevant topics in the world struggle against fascism.
00:43
That is what this Congress is all about, about bringing the youth in particular together
00:49
to share their experiences.
00:51
From over 70 countries we have delegates here in Caracas today and they are getting
00:55
together at different work tables to discuss different topics, for example, such as women
01:01
and gender, the environment and different strategies in their fight against fascism
01:07
that they are all coinciding is a relevant topic here in the world and it has different
01:12
particularities in each specific territory.
01:15
So in that context we are joined now by INA Daftian, she is from Armenia, she is here
01:22
and is also a media school representative, she is joining us in Tell Us Your English.
01:26
Thank you INA and to start we would like to have your thoughts, your opinions about why
01:33
is this Congress, this international congregation of youth regarding the struggle against fascism
01:40
important?
01:41
First of all thank you very much for the invitation, we are very honored to be here today because
01:47
as we all know youth is a driving force of future progress in the country, so being here,
01:52
being a part of this is really important for us.
01:56
We love Venezuela, this is actually our delegates first time here, so we enjoy every second
02:02
of it.
02:03
Right, and you work in particular at a media school, you work with the understanding and
02:11
also education to the general population, in particular to the youth regarding their
02:16
use of media, social networks and that is really a key topic when we talk about the
02:22
fight against fascism, we've seen different scenarios in political campaigns and also
02:29
in other contexts regarding fake news, it's really a matter that we need to be discussing
02:35
and thinking and educating our youth.
02:38
Can you tell us about your experience?
02:41
Well we always think that, I mean in the world everyone always thinks that propaganda is
02:48
something about negativity because the connotation of the word is always negative, but we want
02:54
the youth to understand that propaganda can be used for the benefit of the country as
02:59
well, it can be a good ideology, it can be used for the benefit not just as a negative
03:05
thing.
03:06
So educating the youth, especially in this globalisation world today, when everyone is
03:12
allowed to say whatever they want in the media, in social medias, when fake news, the flow
03:19
of fake news is very fast and it's very big, and our generation nowadays is a consuming
03:24
generation, especially when it comes to information, so we want the youth to understand that they
03:29
need to differentiate and try to understand which news they need to believe and which
03:34
news maybe not, or how to check if the news is right or if it's fake and how to differentiate
03:39
what they see on the internet and not just to believe everything they read.
03:43
Exactly, and we hear so much about the dangers of media nowadays, the fake news, the possibilities
03:52
of spreading lies for example that have a lot of negative impact, do you think there's
03:57
also hope or room to use these tools to come together to promote international struggle?
04:03
We're here with delegates from all over the world, 70 countries, is the media and social
04:10
network also a way to promote those anti-realistic struggles?
04:15
I believe that as long as we have this kind of congresses or festivals or something, there
04:22
is definitely a way, because after all we may be all different, we speak different languages,
04:29
we listen to different kind of music, but we fight for one thing and we fight against
04:35
one thing, so unity is always what brings us together.
04:40
As well for Armenia, because Armenia has a very long history, we've faced many challenges
04:46
alongside, including fighting against fascism alongside with other Soviet Union countries,
04:53
so I believe if we conquer that thing once, we can definitely do it again only together.
05:00
Excellent, thank you Ina for joining us and telling us your English, and that was Ina
05:05
Dabtyan from Armenia, so we're continuing to have this talk with different delegates,
05:11
and as you were saying and as our audience was seeing, here this congress is a room for
05:18
and a place for holding all of these different discussions, media for example is one of the
05:24
topics that we see in the different stands, there's a lot of talk about the television,
05:30
the social networks and the way that the youth, as Ina was just saying, can use this with
05:36
the correct awareness as a platform for unity, as a platform for struggle, and the idea that
05:44
everyone is now coming together with such rich experiences from all over the world,
05:50
experiences that maybe we would not know if not for the delegates, the young delegates
05:55
that are coming here and sharing what you're doing, what challenges they are facing and
06:00
also what alternatives they're thinking about and building, because this congress is also
06:05
about drawing up a common agenda and drawing up a common pathway for the coming years,
06:12
because of course we're analysing the challenges that the current world poses upon us,
06:18
but it's the youth, those who are going to dream of our future and dream of a world that
06:25
united with the experiences from all over the global south and the world will draw up
06:31
a plan for the coming years, so that is it for now, right now, but we will continue to
06:37
touch base with you and continue bringing different testimonies, perspectives here from
06:42
the Youth Congress and the Anti-Fascist Congress in Venezuela. Back to you.
06:48
Thank you, thank you, thank you El for all the information, we will keep in contact throughout
06:53
the day, we were listening to our correspondent in Caracas Belén de los Santos, in the framework
06:58
of the International World Anti-Fascist Youth Congress that will take place in the capital
07:03
until November 25th.
