00:09Over 6.5 million people moved permanently to OECD countries in 2023. The number,
00:18which doesn't include Ukrainians under temporary protection, is the highest on record and a 10%
00:25rise from 2022. The US is the top destination with 1.2 million new legal permanent residents.
00:34The UK rose to second place with an unprecedented 750,000 new arrivals, a remarkable 52% increase
00:45from 2022, the highest among OECD members. Germany is third, followed by Canada, Poland,
00:54Spain and France. With the exception of Ukrainians, Indians accounted for the largest
01:00nationality moving to OECD countries, followed by Chinese, Russians and Romanians. Most people
01:09move because of family reasons and for work, most of them are employed in mining and manufacturing.
01:1617% of them on average are self-employed and in two-thirds of OECD countries,
01:24they're more likely to be self-employed than the local population.
