00:00When your father Simba was your age,
00:02he was afraid of the thunder and would hide behind the king.
00:06And cut.
00:07When I heard that Barry Jenkins was going to direct Mufasa, the Lion King,
00:14I said, oh, my Lord, how fortunate Disney he is.
00:18Ha-ha-ha-ha.
00:22Given the place that Lion King holds within the culture,
00:26I think Barry and the work he's made,
00:28it just only makes sense.
00:30I was really excited by the chance to work with Barry Jenkins.
00:33He's one of our best filmmaking storytellers.
00:35Barry's incredibly talented and really tried to do something different.
00:38Yeah, this one feels even more like an action-adventure.
00:42Yeah. So glad I brought some crickets.
00:44But go easy. We're in a cave.
00:49The Legacy means so much to so many people.
00:51It's had such a lasting impact on my life.
00:54When I was younger, I nearly wore out my VHS copy of the film,
00:57watching it almost every day while babysitting my nephews.
01:01James Earl Jones is one of my heroes,
01:04so it was nerve-wracking to step into the role.
01:07And my way of managing that is to try and serve his portrayal
01:11in my portrayal of Mufasa's youth.
01:14Mufasa is this character that we all know and love.
01:16And now we get to peel back the layers
01:18and really tell the story of how Mufasa came to be the king.
01:23Hello. What's your name?
01:25Mufasa.
01:26I'm Tucker.
01:27And how he became brothers with the character
01:29we will ultimately come to know as Scar.
01:30Come on, Mufasa. Let's get in some trouble.
01:33I think what was most thrilling for me
01:35was how surprising Mufasa's story was.
01:39I always wanted a brother.
01:41It is a beautiful way to deepen the Lion King legacy.
01:46Sometimes I get a scent.
01:48It's barely a trace on the wind, and it smells like home.
01:52Barry has such a singular taste
01:53when it comes to creating an experience.
01:56He knows how to make this big, mythical story feel real.
02:01We must fight together.
02:04Making a film like this gave us this opportunity
02:08to really take the audience on this massive journey.
02:13And we've been able to assemble the cast of my dreams.
02:18Creating it has been the fulfillment of a dream come true.
02:21So I'm excited to share this film when it comes to the big screen.
02:24Go, Mufasa.
02:26Find your place
02:29in the circle of life.
02:32He's such a visual storyteller.
02:34Yet it makes sense that he lives alone.
