00:00A noisy protest on the prom in Llandudno as Welsh Labour gathered for their conference.

00:07Hundreds of farmers came to voice their opposition to the plans to impose inheritance tax on

00:12farms from 2026 announced in the budget.

00:16The First Minister says only a tiny proportion of Welsh farms will be affected but the message

00:21from the protesters was clear.

00:23The farmers have come here to air their frustrations.

00:25My frustrations for one on inheritance tax, you know Keir Starmer went to the NFU conference

00:32and said he was going to protect family farms and the first budget comes out as a massive

00:36bombshell.

00:37Just try and get the message across about this inheritance tax situation, it's not acceptable.

00:41It is devastating for family farms when they work their entire lives for an asset that

00:49will be passed on and they're working for less than the minimum wage, twice the hours

00:56and they're feeding the nation.

01:00Inside the hall, the party needed to fill some time so the leader and deputy leader

01:05of Welsh Labour led a chorus of Calon Lan before the main event.

01:11And the Prime Minister's arrival marked a big moment, the first time in well over a

01:15decade that this conference has been addressed by a Labour Prime Minister.

01:19He began with a few words in Welsh saying it was great to be back.

01:27Sir Keir Starmer went on to praise Welsh Labour's victory at the July general election, winning

01:3127 of the 32 seats in Wales.

01:35But he didn't mention the farmers outside, instead choosing to defend all the decisions

01:40made in the budget.

01:42A budget that focused squarely on the challenges before us, the mountain of mess left by the

01:49Tories, public services decimated, a £22 billion black hole in our finances, concealed

01:57from the country.

01:58This afternoon, another first, the first woman to lead Wales addressed the party.

02:04Labour delivering in Wales is already happening, Wales, the first country to serve school meals

02:11to every primary school child, Wales where prescriptions remain free to everyone who

02:17needs them, Wales where pensioners travel for free on our buses, Wales where we are

02:23proud of having the second best recycling rates on the planet.

02:28Eluned Morgan and Keir Starmer say Wales will benefit from having two Labour governments

02:33in charge.

02:35The pressure will now be on for them to deliver on their promises.
