00:00The 6,400 Italian prologues, which represent a pillar for the promotion of the territory,
00:09the preservation of traditions and quality tourism, meet in Rome for the National Assembly
00:13of the UNPLI, the National Prologue Union of Italy.
00:16The event is an opportunity to focus on their strategic role and the contribution offered
00:20to local communities.
00:21The impact is not only economic but also social, so uniting communities leads to generating
00:29a lot of sharing and social inclusion.
00:32Nine out of ten Italians consider the role we have in the appreciation and protection
00:42of Italian cultural heritage to be very important.
00:45I believe that if tomorrow morning the prologues stopped operating, Italy would be terminated.
00:52According to a census survey conducted in 2024 by UNPLI, more than 90% of Italians
00:58recognize the importance of the prologues in the appreciation of cultural heritage
01:02and in the promotion of local excellences.
01:04With a network of more than 500,000 volunteers who dedicate 25 million hours a year to activities,
01:10these associations have not only resisted the pandemic, but have also grown by 100
01:14units in the last four years and continue to generate a significant economic impact
01:19estimated at 3-4 billion euros per year.
01:22The prologues play a fundamental, but also peculiar, role in the social, historical
01:30and cultural identity of our country, valuing at best the local realities, which are the
01:36strength of Made in Italy as well as, as is perceived in the world, the excellence of
01:42what is done in every Italian municipality, a result of history and of a productive and
01:49social culture.
01:50The prologues organize more than 110,000 events a year, including 20,000 sagres, which attract
01:55millions of participants and generate a revenue of more than 2 billion euros.
01:59However, they do not limit themselves to promoting tourism, their commitment extends to the protection
02:03of historical, cultural and environmental heritage, to the support of communities against
02:07the depopulation of the villages and to the appreciation of typical non-gastronomic products.
02:12We have a world of the third sector that is underway every day to enhance the beauty
02:18of our Italy and to stay close to all citizens, in particular even the most fragile.
02:23We are acting on the code of the third sector in these two years, we have done many things.
02:28First of all, we have praised the shared administration, that is, that way of being together, institutions,
02:35private and social, to give answers to citizens, services, with an alternative model that is
02:41not only that of competition, but also that of social solidarity.
02:46The prologues thus confirm an essential resource for the launch of local communities
02:51and quality tourism in Italy.
