00:39An informed citizenry is the foundation of a truly working democracy,

00:44for it is the people armed with the truth from whom power emanates and who demand accountability.

00:52That's what President R. Marcos Jr. said when he attended the 50th Top-Level Management Conference

00:57organized by the Capitol of Broadcasters of the Philippines.

01:02This is the first conference of the KBP to discuss the various broadcast media trends

01:07and plans for the broadcasting industry.

01:12We must also explore new and creative ways to engage and inspire the public.

01:16We need a citizenry that is not only informed, but is also actively involved, vigilant, ready to defend the values that we hold dear.

01:27At the same time, this is the government's commitment to protect the welfare of the media sector

01:35This is why the Presidential Task Force on Media Security Executive Director, Jose Torres, is at the forefront.

02:05He is the head of the Broadcasters of the Philippines, the National Press Club,

02:08the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, and other concerned groups.

02:13This is part of the government's effort to defend the truth and address the demands of the modern press.

02:21With technological advancements and the popularity of social media,

02:25we have seen a rise in disinformation and misinformation campaigns

02:31that could undermine public trust in the entire democratic process, including elections.

02:38In this regard, media plays a vital role in dispelling the noxious influence of misinformation,

02:45dismantling the lies that are spread by troll farms and other malicious organizations.
