Indonesian volcano erupts forcing evacuations

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located on the eastern Indonesian island of Flores, continued emitting volcanic ash following an eruption yesterday that sent lava down its slopes.

The eruption of the 1,584-meter volcano has led to the evacuation of over 12,000 residents.

Indonesia, home to nearly 130 active volcanoes, lies on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a zone of heightened seismic and volcanic activity where several tectonic plates converge.
