00:00Hello, so my name is Shawi Ghasmi.

00:08I am the former Chief Researcher of the Directed Energy Research Center and recently appointed

00:13as the Chief Innovation Officer at TII, working with Dr. Najwa on the productization and industrialization

00:20of our key technologies that we are developing at TII.

00:24So TII is an applied research entity created in 2020 when the Advanced Technology Research

00:31Council was established to support the transition from the oil and gas economy to the knowledge-based

00:38economy.

00:39So investing heavily in deep tech, preferably developed in Abu Dhabi and in UAE.

00:46I think that what we have been doing so far is pushing to develop cutting-edge technologies

00:51for multiple domains, healthcare, transport, security and defense, space.

00:59And technically speaking, we have been using cutting-edge technologies for our projects.

01:04And what we are now looking at is how we are multiplying our R&D capabilities by leveraging

01:12AI and generative AI.

01:14And as you might have heard about the Falcon large-language model, we aim at bringing it

01:20at our engineering level to make sure that we can develop and innovate at a fast pace.

01:30So there are several aspects that I need to touch on in your question.

01:36The first thing I would like to quote one of my colleagues, Redanit Haku, who recently

01:41very clearly explained how generative AI is a force multiplier for innovation and research

01:49and development.

01:51And I think that his leadership on AI71 is a proof that bringing AI to the wide audience

01:56is extremely important.

01:57At TII, what we are developing is the foundation of science and technology related to artificial

02:05intelligence to make sure that the UAE is one catching the wave at the right time and

02:11become a leader in the deep tech domain through or by leveraging artificial intelligence with

02:19sovereign capabilities where accessing computation power, data, and developing the right use

02:27cases are the main drivers to bring AI to innovate.

02:38I think they have to come to us because one of our main mandates within the Advanced Technology

02:46Research Council is to disseminate knowledge.

02:49So at TII, what we are doing is one making models available as open source models.

02:55I think that everybody knows that the UAE is pushing towards democratizing the access

03:02to open source and generative AI.

03:05And in the same time, if you have use cases, we will be happy to look into them and of

03:10course support the development of technologies related to those use cases.

03:14Our objective is really to put AI and generative AI in the core of our innovation processes

03:22and to make sure that we leverage modern and cutting-edge models to innovate at the fast

03:29pace.

03:30Again, this is our motto today, how are we able to increase the adoption and also increase

03:36the understanding and the readiness of the country through awareness programs that we

03:42are running within the organization.
