COP29: What’s changed since 2015’s Paris Agreement?

As world leaders once again convene to discuss climate change, what progress have we made in the nine years since the landmark Paris Agreement?  Adair Turner, the chairman of the UK’s Energy Transitions Commission, tells CGTN that technological advancements have helped enormously.  #cop29 #climate

00:00The other thing, of course, which has occurred over the last nine years since Paris is an

00:06extraordinary set of technological changes. The reduction in the cost of solar PV, which is

00:13unbelievably dramatic and keeps on going on. The cost reduction in batteries and improvements in

00:19battery technology. The improvements, the reduction in the cost of EVs, which in China

00:26are now lower cost than internal combustion engines. Those technology trends are there

00:31and they will continue to give us greater opportunities to decarbonize the global

00:36economy, even if, sadly, we no longer have the US federal government as a positive force for action.
