The Philippines has almost been visited by Born to be Wild
00:05
to document different wildlife.
00:21
But there are some provinces that we haven't reached yet.
00:29
And now, it's the 17th anniversary of Born to be Wild,
00:34
it's time to get rid of them.
00:37
In our 17 years of documenting wildlife,
00:40
I still feel the adrenaline rush
00:45
when I see critically endangered species.
00:50
It's like, you know, maybe next week, they'll be gone.
00:55
17 years of wildlife documentary is not a joke.
00:58
Yes, we've learned a lot, we've discovered and visited a lot.
01:02
But of course, we can't stop there
01:06
because we can still discover and learn a lot
01:11
if we choose to save them.
01:19
Our team's target for today is...
01:25
to reach Basilan and Sulu.
01:29
When I was informed that my assignment is in Basilan,
01:31
mixed emotions, number one, excitement
01:34
because we haven't been here yet.
01:36
It's worth it because we were all pleasantly surprised.
01:42
I've never been to Sulu.
01:44
I don't have any idea what happened after the war.
01:48
And imagine the species of wildlife that has never been documented on film.
01:56
These animals are competing for food.
01:59
They're competing for their habitat.
02:01
They're not just fighting for no reason.
02:04
They're actually competing for their survival.
02:07
Our endangered wildlife species here in the Philippines
02:11
can't defend themselves.
02:14
That's why we're here, to be their voice.
02:18
We're here with the experts who have their own specializations.
02:24
And we've been with them since day one of Born to be Wild.
02:29
We hope that Born to be Wild will continue its mission
02:33
to inform the public about how important Philippine biodiversity is
02:38
and why it should be saved.
02:40
You actually go as far as those poorly known individuals
02:44
or those who are less important to people.
02:47
And also tackling those stories that hardly people would actually give attention to.
02:55
I've only seen Born as a documentary in the Philippines
02:59
in terms of its storylines on wildlife
03:03
so that people can be educated about wildlife.
03:07
You're the first people to hear that there's a place like this
03:11
that feeds on fruits,
03:13
that it's a new discovery.
03:15
I think that kind of information is very useful for us.
03:21
The information that you disseminate
03:25
adds to our knowledge and helps our information campaign.
03:34
But for now,
03:36
it's not just the experts that we have with us
03:39
to give a voice to Born to be Wild.
03:44
Because even residents and various government agencies
03:49
are seriously involved in protecting the environment.
03:57
What will help us protect the environment
03:59
is to throw away our trash.
04:03
We will throw away our trash.
04:05
We will collect it and throw it away.
04:11
As a Muslim who lives in the province of Sulu or in the Philippines,
04:17
in the Islamic point of view,
04:19
even if it's a small life, a big life,
04:21
a life of an animal or a life of a person,
04:24
we need to protect it and take care of it.
04:26
The instance that we saw someone smoking there,
04:31
we talked to them, we reported it,
04:33
and then they said no to throwing it away or cutting it
04:37
because the lake will be destroyed.
04:45
My promise to nature is to continue to protect
04:51
and educate the Filipino people
04:54
so that I can continue to shoot in a protected area,
05:01
in a deep part of the sea,
05:04
so that the wildlife can understand.
05:07
Mother Nature, I choose you because you are so beautiful.
05:12
I promise Mother Nature that I will do my very best
05:15
in all my being to uplift and uphold
05:19
and take care of her for as long as I can.
05:24
Thank you very much for watching Born to be Wild.
