00:00The Philippines has almost been visited by Born to be Wild

00:05to document different wildlife.

00:21But there are some provinces that we haven't reached yet.

00:29And now, it's the 17th anniversary of Born to be Wild,

00:34it's time to get rid of them.

00:37In our 17 years of documenting wildlife,

00:40I still feel the adrenaline rush

00:45when I see critically endangered species.

00:50It's like, you know, maybe next week, they'll be gone.

00:5517 years of wildlife documentary is not a joke.

00:58Yes, we've learned a lot, we've discovered and visited a lot.

01:02But of course, we can't stop there

01:06because we can still discover and learn a lot

01:11if we choose to save them.

01:19Our team's target for today is...

01:25to reach Basilan and Sulu.

01:29When I was informed that my assignment is in Basilan,

01:31mixed emotions, number one, excitement

01:34because we haven't been here yet.

01:36It's worth it because we were all pleasantly surprised.

01:42I've never been to Sulu.

01:44I don't have any idea what happened after the war.

01:48And imagine the species of wildlife that has never been documented on film.

01:56These animals are competing for food.

01:59They're competing for their habitat.

02:01They're not just fighting for no reason.

02:04They're actually competing for their survival.

02:07Our endangered wildlife species here in the Philippines

02:11can't defend themselves.

02:14That's why we're here, to be their voice.

02:18We're here with the experts who have their own specializations.

02:24And we've been with them since day one of Born to be Wild.

02:29We hope that Born to be Wild will continue its mission

02:33to inform the public about how important Philippine biodiversity is

02:38and why it should be saved.

02:40You actually go as far as those poorly known individuals

02:44or those who are less important to people.

02:47And also tackling those stories that hardly people would actually give attention to.

02:55I've only seen Born as a documentary in the Philippines

02:59in terms of its storylines on wildlife

03:03so that people can be educated about wildlife.

03:07You're the first people to hear that there's a place like this

03:11that feeds on fruits,

03:13that it's a new discovery.

03:15I think that kind of information is very useful for us.

03:21The information that you disseminate

03:25adds to our knowledge and helps our information campaign.

03:34But for now,

03:36it's not just the experts that we have with us

03:39to give a voice to Born to be Wild.

03:44Because even residents and various government agencies

03:49are seriously involved in protecting the environment.

03:57What will help us protect the environment

03:59is to throw away our trash.

04:03We will throw away our trash.

04:05We will collect it and throw it away.

04:11As a Muslim who lives in the province of Sulu or in the Philippines,

04:17in the Islamic point of view,

04:19even if it's a small life, a big life,

04:21a life of an animal or a life of a person,

04:24we need to protect it and take care of it.

04:26The instance that we saw someone smoking there,

04:31we talked to them, we reported it,

04:33and then they said no to throwing it away or cutting it

04:37because the lake will be destroyed.

04:45My promise to nature is to continue to protect

04:51and educate the Filipino people

04:54so that I can continue to shoot in a protected area,

05:01in a deep part of the sea,

05:04so that the wildlife can understand.

05:07Mother Nature, I choose you because you are so beautiful.

05:12I promise Mother Nature that I will do my very best

05:15in all my being to uplift and uphold

05:19and take care of her for as long as I can.
